Activist atheists.

That, I think, is the term I've been looking for.

Stop with the militant stridency already! :lay:

Actually, that is a great term, for people who actually do something. As far as the great cause is concerned, I just refuse to sign off on other people's bullshit in social situations.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The Net is best considered analogous to communication with disincarnate intelligences. As any neophyte would tell you. Do not invoke that which you have no facility to banish.

That's the public image they try to promote. Privately, they resemble the Catholic Church's Diocesan Youth Commission's logo, anno 1973. True, clerics who are paedophiles are in the minority, but since the hierarchy of all denominations has protected them from the arm of the law for centuries, all those institutions are implicated in the crimes committed by the minorities* among them

Being an activist promoter of secularism would make more sense, in some ways...

It would be somewhat hypocritical of me to head in that direction, of course...
