World's cardinals meet for sex abuse talks

Cardinals from around the world have met for unprecedented talks on paedophile priests, as activists called for the Church to end "symbolic gestures" and release files on the abuses.

More than 100 of the Roman Catholic Church's 203 cardinals took part in the meeting in the Vatican, which was also expected to discuss the issue of religious freedom and conversions of Anglicans to Catholicism.

Pope Benedict XVI invited the cardinals to take part earlier this month.

So will this be a turning point for the Catholic church, or more of the same, again. :dunno:

They're probably meeting to discuss how they can get away with it, and stop all the leaks.

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

There are deeply rooted (not a euphemism) reasons for why this has been going on, not least of which is the church's ludicrous, unreasonable and oppressive approach to sex and sexuality, and their notion that celibacy places a person above others on any level. It's a perversion that could only lead to what it has.

I might right a book and put it out on Amazon "How to be a pederast priest".
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi meanwhile played down expectations of any major outcome from Friday's meeting.

"It's a communication, information, clarification, reflection on some questions but not a very thorough examination," he said ahead of the talks.
Besides, the solemnly announced platitudes over the past few months that clerical criminals ought to be subject to laws of the real world are utterly meaningless until the concept of the "sanctity of the confessional" is abolished, but that dogma is too central to catholic doctrine to remove it without effectively destroying the holy roman church. It therefore will not happen as long as there is a pope.

A clear example of circling the wagons, I suspect...

They still do not comprehend the irrevocable damage that has been done to their "brand"

That, and probably the fact that the Bible (and therefore God) doesn't pass comment on whether or not one should 'lie' with other people's children. :ddpan:
