I don't know much about the origin of Judaism. But I would certainly nominate christianity. Unless you believe he came back from the dead, it's pretty obviously a pack of lies.
How can you point to someone else's motivation, except to point to other people lying on a huge scale, through wishful thinking mostly, like the example I gave in Ireland. In that example, one person swore she could see the statue move, and twelve others with her were so infected as to also swear they could see movement that wasn't there. Within a week, there were thousands of reports of statues that moved, all over the country. Many religious people, even today, are primed and ready to lie.
How different is that from the story of Jesus's 'appearances' after resurrection?
If we didn't have modern reporting etc, the story of the moving statue would have moved on a long way by now. ( back then it had nearly half a country believing it, after a week, but that's the power of television ).

Is FSMism a religion yet? That started out as satire.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I've been touched by his noodly appendage!

Actually, the prophet Bobby Henderson (spaghetti sauce be upon him) is a Facebook friend of mine.

The real statement should be:
"Show me a religion that was every true, before I show you all the others that were false."
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

Same way political parties start, they split off from some pre-existing political party or religion like Jesus fragmented as a pre-existing Jewish sect lead by John the Baptist perhaps. Unlike many other Jewish sects which faded into oblivion you did not have to be Jewish to qualify as a disciple and so the religion spread like influenza.
Just because more people believe Jesus is the son of God and not the son of Satan does not make it any truer.
