Yes they do and yes it does - and they believe that works of fiction can teach children witchcraft or at least introduce them to the idea. Never mind that the bibble teaches them about rape, murder, and genocide.
Well, you can commit rape, murder, and genocide, and still get into heaven. Call up the devil? You're fucked.

Actually I don't think it is as simple as that (though I know you weren't expounding a serious point here X). As a Xian in my early adulthood I recall the sense that the world of god was not actually 'supernatural' but normal and part of the real world. Attempts to invoke 'magic;' were either seen as misguided - and a lot of Christians I knew then believed there was no such thing at all - or else the work of Stan (deliberate spelly).

Fucking bullshit either way of course.
Actually, I was partly serious. I remember, vividly, a Sunday school teacher telling me that magic existed in this world and that any prayer to Stan would be granted because he is 'Lord of this world' but that the price would be my eternal soul. He babbled on about witches and wizards holding power in this world but that the power always backfired on them and turned them into evil, sickly things because it came from Stan and not Jeebus. At the age of 7 or 8, that was powerful stuff! In hindsight, I think he had probably taken too much acid and read Lord of the Rings!! :hehe:

These ideas are common among Christians. No acid needed.

Indeed they are, RK.

Fear plays a huge role in the type of christianty portrayed in the clip. Anything that is not perceived as coming from god is from satan - and satan and his minions are waiting under every rock and behind every tree to deceive people and cause them to sin and turn away from god. Something as simple as reading the "wrong" book or watching the "wrong" TV show can be the first step in a downward spiral to sin and ultimately destruction. You have to be constantly on guard against attack. It's a not an easy way to live - to put it mildly.

I read the chick publication, then went chasing down the ratholes of links. I've never played Dungeons & Dragons. What about it? Did it ever actually cause murder & suicide? Or is that just a Christian scare story?

Many years ago in Spain when live role games were very popular, a group of players killed a couple of homeless with swords as part of the game. They started to issue a law forbidding the games, or limiting the age. Of course the mass media started to unveil "dozens" of cases of suicide and violence.
It happens. As much as popstar fans, or religious frenzy.

And about magic and stuff, when I was about fourteen, I was very deep in black magic and esoteric groups. I remember I wanted to impress the priest at school with my evilness and during confession I told him that I practiced black magic. His answer was, more or less "cool! Let me know if it works!". I think I abandoned it a couple of weeks later... So... Not all are as dumbass.

The god-botherers seldom notice that Hogwarts as quite a Christmas celebration every year, and the wizard families celebrate Christmas as well. Mr. Weasley's return in time for Christmas after the snake attack is just one such point. On the other hand, you never hear of any of the teachers or children talking about going to chapel, and they certainly don't talk about worshipping anything, Jesus or Stan.
