I'm sure Marcuse would not mind for this to be distributed freely and widely...

Thanks for that. Quite interesting as a historical document giving some insight into the state of some aspects of left thought at the time. Many of Sigmund Freud's ideas and practices have been re-evaluated since, and much of it overturned and discredited along the way, but at the same time the psychology of politics, both in reference to thought and to action, has not only become a rich seam of academic study but, one might argue, it has also become a primary focus of political discourse more generally.

What do you think you we can still take from Marcuse's essay today?

Standard operational procedure: Wait for an event for which a quatrain can be perceived as a reasonable fit, then go: "See. Another event Nozzer prophesied. Retrospective prophesies are the second-best prophesies. (None can beat Dutch prophesies.)
So you talk about mobs and the working classes as if they were the question. You've got that eternal idiotic idea that if anarchy came it would come from the poor. Why should it? The poor have been rebels, but they have never been anarchists; they have more interest than anyone else in there being some decent government. The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all. Aristocrats were always anarchists. - G.K. Chesterton
