Not even trying today, are you?

Regarding the opening post: My dad used to send me religious email garbage all the time. I deleted most of it right away. And the few friends that I had that were religious did try to convert me, but not too frequently, thank god.

I don't like being blessed or told that I'll be prayed for, but the one that really annoys me is when I do something helpful and am thanked and told that it was very Christian of me.

I go case by case with the blessings.
Some people really are expressing a desire that the supreme ruler of all the universe keep my sneezing in check.
Most say it because it's the polite thing to say. The most annoying people say it because they are the kind of folks Jesus refers to in the first few verses of the sixth chapter of Matthew.
Some people really are expressing a desire that the supreme ruler of all the universe keep my sneezing in check.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

We have this exchange student. He's one of the lutheran atheists. Now my wife thinks we should attend the Unitarian Christmas event so he sees some American monkeybusiness. It is cute with the assorted jesus mary joseph sheperds and shit. Especially the 20 shepherds and 20 sheep. But it was only funny the first time.
