Worse, a big step backwards if you ask me. Yes, they are now living pretty much in the modern world, but their minds are even more warped than ever.

Modern world?

Yup, they are driving cars, travelling on planes to foreign parts, etc. ... but they are now 100% full-on fundies who can't go a single sentence without invoking God. At one point in the program, the main character had a dig at Darwin, and claimed that he was now in hell.

I watched the first 15 minutes or so and I think the Amish who shunned him were right. Preaching like that is a form of pride and verily he has all of his reward for it in full, even if Christianity is true. Advanced gadgetry is all the guy got from the modern world it seems.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Yeah, I got that vibe as well ... it gets worse if you have the stomach to watch some more.

Wait? there is more to be got?
Because the outer world may not have much more to offer in the realm of nice people and human values than buggyland.
More diversity, sure, but it doesn't seem like he is equipped to deal with that, is he?

My first thoughts. They're going for the toys.

I like the cool scooters. Who needs pedals? Pedals are from the devil! Cool Ringo haircuts!
