In Hong Kong, I still hear references to the recent financial TSUNAMI. Everybody uses the term, to the exclusion of any other. Five years ago, the ignorant twats wouldn't even have known what a tsunami was.

I hate the way they use "Insurgents" because because it sounds more sinister (and most people don't know what it means) unlike the synonymous word "Rebels" which would denote that the opposite side to whoever the media's country is on are somehow fighting against an invading force rather than a "liberating" one which they invariably are.
"Rebels" brings up images of Ché Guevra and "freedom fighters" were as "insurgents" seems to bring up "terrorists" and "anti-liberation forces" but this is only because of the way they've used the word in recent years.
