Irish Priests. Why not just castrate them?

Report into child sex abuse by Irish priests due
A second report into child sex abuse by Catholic priests in the Irish Republic is due to be released later.
The investigation - covering a 30-year period from 1975 - is expected to reveal the extent of how priests in Dublin covered up complaints. The part played by the police and the state has also been investigated. In May a separate report revealed a catalogue of cruelty against children at residential homes run by Catholic religious orders. The latest independent inquiry, which began in 2006, focused on 46 priests working in the Archdiocese of Dublin.
The report is expected to highlight how some priests were simply moved to a different parish and conclude that too many people put the reputation of the Church before the welfare of the children. Church leaders have already warned of its shocking content.
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said last week: "We will be reading of sordid events that took place within the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Dublin." The report was completed months ago but publication was delayed until clearance was given by the High Court.
Some details were removed because they could jeopardise criminal proceedings. In a separate report in May, orphanages and industrial schools in the Republic were described as places of fear, neglect and "endemic sexual abuse". It criticised religious authorities for covering up the crimes and the Irish government's Department of Education for colluding in the silence. A Catholic order has since said it would supply a 161m euros (£145m) package of measures as reparation for the abuse. The Christian Brothers said the decision was taken in response to the report.

The truth will out. They should be punished to the full extent of the law in Ireland. Nothing more. At least then, they'd have plenty of "spiritual" guidance in Irish prisons.

Thursday, 26 November 2009
A former Garda Commissioner and other senior gardai had improper communications with an Archbishop of Dublin in relation to criminal investigations into the abuse of children.
The cosy relationship between the gardai and the Catholic Church hierarchy is singled out for criticism in the long-awaited report by the inquiry into clerical sex abuse in the Dublin archdiocese, it has been learned.
The commission limited its inquiry into how the Dublin archdiocese dealt with sex abuse to cover 1975 to 2004. However, it is believed that investigators followed open files dating back several decades.
It is understood that the report makes unfavourable comments on how senior members of the gardai, including a Commissioner (since deceased), had inappropriate dealings with the late Archbishop John Charles McQuaid when he headed the Dublin diocese.
The long-awaited report of the commission set up to investigate child abuse in the Dublin archdiocese will be published today by the Justice Minister Dermot Ahern and Children’s Minister Barry Andrews.
Despite its criticisms, the report also praises other more junior members of the gardai who diligently investigated complaints of priests abusing children within the Dublin archdiocese.
It is believed the report will also criticise the lack of structures within the gardai to deal with the problem at a time when the hierarchy of the Church was one of the most powerful elites in the State.
Details of the communications between the gardai and the archdiocese — criticised by the commission — were contained in the archdiocese’s files.
The commission trawled through thousands of files over more than nine years. It found the four archbishops of Dublin who preceded Dr Diarmuid Martin knew that priests were abusing children over a 35-year period.
The commission also criticises the four archbishops’ failure to report the crimes to the gardai until 1995.
Although some boys who were abused by priests were passed on to the priests’ friends to be abused again, the commission did not find evidence of a paedophile ring operating in the Dublin archdiocese.
It will also say the archdiocese of Dublin knew about the grave nature of the allegations against priests before it took out insurance to cover compensation for their sexual abuse.
The commission, which was headed by High Court Judge Yvonne Murphy, is expected to thank the current Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Martin, who gave her team unrestricted access to the archdiocese’s files.

What drives me nuts is that people were abused at school by these people, then sent their children to the same place. How fucking stupid is that?

If they'd done that to me and mine they would have had to import a new lot of priests. The old lot would have been used up. (I have some special things saved for such people.)Animavore wrote:But there were no other schools back then. Re: Irish Priests. Why not just castrate them?
I think the thing which will have the most lasting repercussions is not the actual abuse, as horrendous as it was, but the despicable institutional cover up conducted by the church.
I'm hoping that there will be a wonderful silver lining to all of this, namely the removal of the Catholic church from its position of power within the Republic of Ireland's school system and the end of the Council for Catholic Maintained schools in the North.
It is absolutely beyond belief that this disgusting, evil institution (that's a fact, as the report will show - this isn't just an atheist with an axe to grind using hyperbole) still has such power over the vast majority of children on the island of Ireland. It is incredible that they haven't been driven out of the school system by outraged lay people - but that's fuckin' Ireland for you.
