The woman was 39, she met a 15 year old and gave him a blow job.
Extenuating circumstances? Going through divorce, sister dying of cancer...
I don't want this to go in to another one of those endless arguments about the age of consent, but almost 3 fucking years in prison??? Jesus Christ, what is wrong with the judiciary? Who came up with the bullshit in this case about emotional trauma etc?
The comments at the end of the article pretty much reflect my opinions on this:

A religious studies teacher? Boy did she give him some religion. I can just hear her defense - "I just wanted to show him that there might be a god"

Atheists have always argued that this world is all that we have, and that our duty is to one another to make the very most and best of it. ~Christopher Hitchens~

Nah, I think it's too much - she's lost her job, everything...
A piece of shit who already had 20 prior convictions to his name ran over and killed a 20 year old man here while pissed out of his brains, then drove away.
He got two years and the utter devastation and emotional trauma he inflicted was a thousand times worse.
Three years in prison for consensual sex is too much. One day in prison for a victimless crime is too much. The stigma of the crime is what has caused harm here, not the so-called crime itself. How can giving a blow job be a crime? Why are we as a society so terrified of sex?
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

Did you read the article? This is clear cut statutory rape.

I don't think we call it statutory rape over here. Whether we do or not I think the term is made up to make the crime sound worse then it is. It is clearly not rape if it is consensual.
My objections to the term aside she done the crime and now has to do the time. I think the sentence is a bit harsh myself but you reap what you sow.
Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.
I sit somewhere between Andrew and the more 'liberal' interpretation. It wasn't a one off after all. If the boy has been as affected as the article suggests then she deserves punishment. Frankly I think the tattoo deserves it too!
What I mean is that you might have had a case for this being ridiculous if it were just a 39 year old woman and a 15 year old boy. But she was his teacher. She had a position of authority over him. That changes things.
I wonder if it would ever have been found out had he not got the tattoo?
A friend of mine had sex with one of the teachers when we were in school. We all thought he was 'the shit.'
It could be a case were any of the trauma the teen is said to have endured came more from being busted than anything else.
Wild speculation on my part though. A possibility none the less.

I think you make a very valid point. Research shows that some adults who experience sex when they were young (illegally so) at the hands of adults did not report it because they actually gained pleasure from it and the relationship. Others reported that 'disclosure' was more traumatising than the abuse itself. There isn't an easy answer to some of this stuff.
Mrs Dev kept thinking about the Devlet when she saw Ike and said she would "cut the throat of any bitch who would do that to her boy", but I would be so proud if the Devlet shagged his teacher at 15. Stud!
About me: I have prehensile eyebrows. I speak 9 languages fluently, one of which other people can also speak. When backed into a corner, I fit perfectly - having a right-angled arse.

It does indeed. Most cases of a 39 year old woman and a 15 year old boy would never see court at all. The breach of trust is the real issue here. However, the sentence is ridiculously long and should have been suspended.
I wouldn't read too much into the claims of this boy's 'trauma' either. They were made by his parents, the same parents that reported the crime. I sniff a compensation claim here (or am I just too cynical?)
We can't rule out the fact that the woman and boy were genuinely in love either. People do funny things when they are in love - like putting bits of themselves inside other people!
