Modern slavery system..? Is that another phrase for "work"?

Clearly, they missed putting the word "protection" between slavery and system...

Not really better. Are they saying they won't protect illegal migrants from being used as slaves?

Give Fishi Rishi a break. The proposed bill will simply say that some people who do not arrive in Britain to claim asylum via a government defined 'safe and legal route' will not benefit from international human rights, migration, refuge and asylum law, or anti-modern slavery law, and will therefore be immediately detained upon arrival anywhere in the British Isles without reference to the courts, will forfeit all rights to a judicial review of the decision to detain them, will forfeit all rights to appeal, and will be returned to their country of origin (or a 'safe' third country to be determined by the government) within 28 days.

For the purposes of the bill a 'safe and legal route' is only one where the person seeking asylum has been granted a visa of entry in advance. Since the UK withdrew from the Dublin Regulations on 31 December 2020, there are no longer any 'safe and legal routes' to the UK for people travelling to Britain to seek asylum other than securing an entry visa beforehand. This renders everyone who arrives in the UK without an entry visa someone who has arrived by an 'illegal route', which necessarily makes them a criminal, and the UK government has a legal obligation to not grant asylum-seeker or refugee status to criminals.

See. It's very straightforward. Nothing to get hot and bothered about.

Not sure about that, I just commentated on the wording difference between 2 parts of the message thing...

Aye. It does appear that PR bods at Tory central office seem to have had a bought of ill-considered honesty.

I wonder how much Tony Abbott had to do with this.

The 'Stop the Boats' podium slogan is reminiscent of Abbott, but perhaps Lynton Crosby is a more likely suspect as he's been/is an adviser to both.

Playing random mindgames with the slogans. Breaking international law is more concerning. Think that's a bad sign. After the slide sets in could end up anywhere. Afterall Sunak is a calm player but a exception to the weirdos who've been in power since the 70s here in the UK. Could trend anywhere after you begin ignoring the picture frame of international law.
