Kelton's Deficit Myth is quite a good read.

The GOP are, essentially, sociopaths, who are happy to shoot everyone and themselves in the foot just to make sure everyone pays them enough attention - which is all of your attention.

I have other ideas, but the Republicans in the House couldn't even unify behind a speaker without the extreme elements of the party demanding suicidal concessions before doing so. They have a 4 seat majority, including Santos. The idea that they'll be able to unify behind a resolution to raise the debt ceiling without some monstrosity being birthed in the process is to me a forlorn hope.

I've abandoned political analysis with them, and much of the right. They defy analysis in any practical, pragmatic, traditional sense. They don't seem to have any ideas or values that aren't directly related to their own sense of entitlement. All that's left is to pathologist them. These are damaged people, who damage others to feel potent and significant.
