The US electoral system favors rural states, not necessarily the right wing. There was a period in American history when there was significant support in rural populations for the left wing Populist Party. As hard as it may be to imagine now, the Republican domination of rural voters may wane at some point.
The system was built for the rich landowners who never allowed people to live on their land only cattle. Be rational do you think the repugs will give up power ever? Only when the US becomes a full blown plutocracy and political parties dont exist. Like the UK the US is heading for a one party state then plutocracy. TF! I wont be around to see it.

I hope that the air conditioning repairman sues the arse off Aguirre in a civil suit...
Ah, that may happen, but what will the jury decide. I offer an alternative timeline: Aguirre gets himself elected sheriff of some Real American county or other. :smoke:

Exactly. It is still as corrupt as it was on its conception but it suits their mind set. They could not handle pure democracy. :FIO:

NOBODY sane can handle pure democracy... it is either close to anarchy as the decisions of yesterday get overturned by a change of mind, or tyranny of the majority, as any measure to prevent that would be an adulteration.

May be too high profile, but something along those lines. We'll see how his trial turns out. :smoke:

fairy claim... or it just may be that the Dutch are not sane, which would explain some points of their history, like the tulip mania ...

We do.
Pure democracy is defined as
a form of democracy in which the laws and policies are made directly by the citizens rather than by representatives.

No source for that claim I see. We have a PR system which directly relates number of votes to the number of members of the second chamber. It can be a personal vote.

What claim? I asked you a question.

If you're disputing the meaning of the term pure democracy, I cited the dictionary, which specifically excludes representatives. Do you have a source more credible than the dictionary?

Oh. Proportional representation. Wonderful. That's how representative democracy is supposed to work. It is not pure democracy, though, as Joe pointed out. With source for that claim.

Democracy is very much a fuzzy and relative concept. How "fair" the systems are varies widely - even defining "fair" is difficult.

Democracy may be a fuzzy concept, but pure democracy isn't. It's a clearly defined term of art in political science and has a long history.

That's why I'm curious that Scot thinks it applies to the Netherlands.
