Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Why doesn't someone offer the 1500 odd Russian soldiers in Moldova EU citizenship. I'm sure they'd be happy to defect.
Because their families would pay the price?

Actually, I saw a good documentary on the whole thing, and it did seem that the majority in that small region did not want to break away from the old Soviet Union, to become part of Moldova. On balance, particularly since it probably was a slim majority, it was not really a good move, especially as it let Russia get a toehold there...

And Transnistria. Donbas and Transnistria, Putin's two last territorial demands in Europe.

And a land corridor to Kaliningrad.

Putin's three last demands are Donbas, Transnistria, and a land corridor to Kaliningrad.

And Gotland for a SAM installation-

Four! Putin's FOUR last demands are Donbas, Transnistria, the land corridor to Kaliningrad, and SAMs in Gotland.

And Kherson-

Amongst Putin's last demands are included such diverse elements as Donbas, Transnistria, the land corridor to Kaliningrad, SAMs in Gotland, and Kherson!

It was actually the Monty Python Spanish "amongst our weapons" part of the Spanish Inquisition skit.

This is an article about it:

Yeltsin was a drunk. The US went in and reorganised Russia's economy. The people who were sent over were known as the Harvard Boys. They hit 2,500% inflation. Ordinary Russians lost all their savings.

The US, through the Harvard Institute for International Development, made the oligarchs. They are why you have Putin and why the Russians may favour strong leadership over liberalism.

Well, it was nothing. Even the last vote in the US Senate for North Macedonia was over 90 in favor. The house has a good 60 anti NATO Trumpsters. No new members, America will just have to protect more of Europe!
