I suppose they could just shorten it to GAGA. I think it would get the gist of the thing across. :prof:

Now I know why Trump announced his candidacy so soon. So he could scream "witch hunt."

DOJ appoints special counsel to oversee Trump investigations

Trump lashes out at special counsel appointment: "It is so unfair. It is so political"
Former President Donald Trump said Friday he "won't partake" in special counsel investigations into his retention of classified documents after leaving office or his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol.

In his first public comments after Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of a special counsel to oversee two ongoing federal investigations involving Trump and his associates, the former president told Fox News Digital he "hopes the Republicans have the courage to fight this."

"I have been proven innocent for six years on everything – from fake impeachments to Mueller who found no collusion, and now I have to do it more?" Trump claimed. "It is not acceptable. It is so unfair. It is so political."
Here we go again. :bored:

This is going to have to go faster than Mueller:
CNN

Newly appointed special counsel pledges to oversee investigations with independence
Jack Smith, newly appointed as special counsel by the Department of Justice to oversee criminal investigations into former President Donald Trump, promised to conduct himself with "independent judgment."

“I intend to conduct the assigned investigations, and any prosecutions that may result from them, independently and in the best traditions of the Department of Justice. The pace of the investigations will not pause or flag under my watch. I will exercise independent judgement and will move the investigations forward expeditiously and thoroughly to whatever outcome the facts and the law dictate,” he said, according to a statement from the DOJ.

What will Trump do for 2 years? Attack Biden and DeSantis:
It’s tempting, then, to see Trump, not DeSantis, this time around as more of the Jeb Bush — a has-been who’s done but doesn’t know it or doesn’t want to admit it. “He’s dead man walking,” longtime Florida-based, mostly Democratic megadonor John Morgan told me. “He’s lost three elections in a row,” Sam Nunberg, one of Trump’s earliest political advisers before and during his 2016 campaign, told me. “The majority of the country despises Trump,” Nunberg noted, “and the majority of the Republican Party is moving on.” It’s far from only Murdoch’s Post and Fox News and the Wall Street Journal that are blaming Trump for the spate of GOP losses and blaring a shift in preference. Previously supportive elected officials from the Senate to the House and down to the states have begun to edge away as well. Perhaps equally importantly, right-of-center talkers, bloggers and influencers like Mike Cernovich and Candace Owens have openly criticized a man they once lionized. Some of the most up-to-date polling is showing more Republican voters want DeSantis more than Trump.

Anybody else would acknowledge this bald reality and fade away or at least take a break. But Trump is Trump. And for all the ways he so consistently stokes chaos, Trump, 76, is nothing if not predictable. He won’t let it go because he never has. He won’t admit defeat because he never has. He won’t willingly, much less graciously, cede the spotlight … because he never has — especially not to a seemingly able and ascendant heir. “He can’t accept that anybody else can do what he perceives he can do,” Alan Marcus, a former Trump publicist and consultant, told me. “And he also can’t accept walking away because that would indicate he’s a loser.” And so he’s going to attack DeSantis. He already is. Whether it works — whether he can do to DeSantis what he did to Bush — is very much to be determined.

I am not quite sure what to think. Trump and warm? I can see how he could be useful to some. But warm?

Elon Musk has reinstated former US president Donald Trump's Twitter account after more than 15 million accounts responded to a poll.

Mr Musk, who bought the social media site last month, asked users in a poll whether Mr Trump should be reinstated and 51.8 per cent of the 15,085,458 responses voted yes.

"The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated," Mr Musk tweeted.

Mr Trump had appeared less than keen earlier in the day.

"I don't see any reason for it," Mr Trump said when asked whether he planned to return to Twitter by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition's annual leadership meeting.
I bet that he will not be able to resist the lure of twitting...

NPR:
Facebook is considering whether to lift its own suspension of the former president when that suspension expires in January 2023, and the company has said it is talking to outside experts and considering "signals related to real-world harm" in making that decision. YouTube has said it will allow Trump to post videos again when the risk of violence drops, but it has not given any timeline.

It's also unclear what a return of Trump to Twitter would mean for Truth Social.

According to a regulatory filing, Trump has an agreement with Truth Social to post there first and refrain from publishing the same content on any other social media site for six hours — with an exception for political messaging, political fundraising and get-out-the-vote efforts, which he can post anywhere at any time.

He could argue that everything he posts, anywhere, is "political messaging"...
