How do you celebrate today?

Post by Animavore » Wed Jan 20, 2021 12:18 am

Unfortunately I'm on night shift so I won't get to celebrate today, but I'm off for 4 days after so we'll see.

How will you celebrate fascism getting a major set back today?

Well, first I'm going to have a looong bath, with bubbles. Then I'm going to turn the heating up and snuggle on the sofa with a nice cup of tea, a choccy biccy (or three, lol!) and read a bit of romantic fiction, simply for the shear uncomplicated pleasure of it...

It's not inauguration day yet. Right now it's an early Tuesday evening in Washington, DC.

Rather than being in a celebratory mood, I am profoundly relieved to see the back of by far the worst president the US has seen in living memory, and perhaps in the course of its entire history.

What exactly is there to celebrate? The same people who elected that narcissistic, incompetent psychopath are still there. Yes, Biden won the popular vote, but not by a great margin. 7 million more votes than Trump looks like a lot, until one notices that the gap between him and Trump just 4.4 percentage points. Biden - 51.3%. Trump - 46.9%. The bulk of the type of people who voted for the latter are not going to change their minds, and they are certainly not going just disappear.

And then there is Biden himself. What can we expect from him? Certainly, he is not going to be the disastrous clusterfuck personified so brilliantly summarised by Jonathan Pie (despite making some factual mistakes) here, but going by the policies Biden supported during his 36 years as Senator he has not exactly covered himself in glory, to put it extremely mildly.

With the exception of Bernie Sanders and maybe Elizabeth Warren, the eleven Democrat candidates who remained standing when the primary elections actually took place were neoliberals, and Biden positioned himself near the right end of that spectrum. He said that he sees no problem with billionaires and that they'll notice hardly any difference if he is elected. In other words, business as usual. It is a major reason why Hillary Clinton lost the most important swing states in the north-east. She too sucked up to the one-percenters and ignored the working and middle classes.

Don't for a moment think Biden will be much different. His multi-trillion program looks good on paper, but politicians are notorious for backtracking on promises they have made. Biden has been a politician for 48 years. He knows how to back-pedal, make compromises and make plausible looking excuses. He only looks good to me in comparison to his predecessor who simply should not have come within cooee of the presidency in the first place. Excuse me for not getting that celebratory feeling.

Nothing says "FUCK FASCISM" like 30,000 heavily armed troops in the streets and an unholy alliance between government and Big Business, eh?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Yeah Biden is a fascist.

And what alliance? You're starting to sound like Cunt (assuming you are referring to Twitter et al).

Anyway, I'm not celebrating Biden coming into office so I don't know why people are posting anything about Biden, who I don't even care much about.

I'm celebrating being able to turn on TV and not see some ugly ginger fucker talking complete and utter shite every day and all the news stations rushing to publish his every lie and generate negative hype for the most undeserving piece of shit who has graced this planet in living memory.

At least Biden will back-track from some of the worst Trump decisions, particularly on climate change (and environmental protection in the US).

I don't even know what Resident Trump is. Not really ginger. Some sort of piss stain on a y-front colour.
