What Comer does not say is that Hunter made only two additional payments to his father in the same amount, on October 15, 2018, and November 15, 2018, a committee aide told the Washington Examiner, speaking anonymously. (That’s a total of less than $4,500.)

Comer also does not mention the previously reported emails from Hunter’s laptop that indicate those transfers were paying his father back for a pickup truck. Instead, he makes it seem as though Hunter has been making shady monthly payments to his father for years.

If I were to leave a computer to be repaired, I would certainly not expect my data to be accessed, and definitely not copied or shared.

If I were to leave a computer to be repaired, I would certainly not expect my data to be accessed, and definitely not copied or shared.

As I understand it, the laptop had liquid damage and the job was data recovery, not a repair, so copying the data was part of the deal. Opening some files to verify there wasn't corruption is understandable too. What's interesting is that the tech, Mac Isaac, says he opened one file that was tagged with a purple dot, and it had Burisma stuff.

The laptop was considered abandoned after 90 days of not being picked up according to the service ticket, but what that means for the data, I have no idea. I guess we'll see what happens with Hunter's lawsuit.

There is a lot about this laptop business that smells funny.

I left a phone unrepaired, because I didn't want to hand it over, understanding the agreement. Ever wonder how many people don't even think about data security while doing this kind of chore?
