Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

and I remember a song from the 80s (in the OST of the Cat People movie featuring Nasstassja Kinski) that spoke about putting out fires with gasoline...

I have a couple of Finnish Americans telling me the politics is normal and he can't wait till the Nov election is over, we are freaking out too much. He will be happy for GOP taking the senate and he will just suffer the last two years under Biden, but in 2024 everything will be fine. Move along, nothing to see here!

No, it's not fine. A non-elected branch of government is basically writing law. Biden must act now. Election day will be too late. We will have no way to stop republicans at the state level in 2023 and 2024.

2013 tinkering with voting rights
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelby_County_v._Holder
The Supreme Court granted certiorari to hear the case on the limited question of "whether Congress' decision in 2006 to reauthorize Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act under the pre-existing coverage formula of Section 4(b) of the Voting Rights Act exceeded its authority under the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments and thus violated the Tenth Amendment and Article IV of the United States Constitution. The court's super majority of conservative judges has already passed down rulings about abortion and the 2nd Amendment. New York Times journalist Adam Liptak says more legal upheavals are likely.

ah, the all important context I was missing... I hope he's driven to resign the job and retire to living as a hermit in the rockies, or maybe some wild forest...

Whatever they do now will be undone next year, if the Dems can increase the court numbers (which they can't, it will never pass the Senate) then the GOP could increase the numbers again. We could have like 49 justices. They could all pack into a tiny car and jump out in chambers, to calliope music. The clerks can ride unicycles, dressed in monkey suits.

C'mon, it'd be fun!

All in all I'd rather live under an African despot. Waaaait a minute.......
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
