This could have been the UK but for Thatcher:

Norway votes – but is Europe’s biggest oil giant ready to go green?

She really wasted the money.

Real chumocracy at work:

Boris Johnson’s generation game: the young and poor pay for the old and rich
Andrew Rawnsley wrote:His new levy is an unfair tax that won’t resolve the social care crisis it is supposed to fix

Reforming Britain’s creaking provision of social care has long been treated as a political “third rail”: an issue so charged that no politician dare touch it for fear that their reputation and popularity will be electrocuted.

Tony Blair and David Cameron stayed well clear. Theresa May came up with a plan that caused such a jolt that it cost her a parliamentary majority when she suddenly revealed her scheme and then hastily abandoned it in the middle of the 2017 election campaign. So cheerleaders for Boris Johnson are hailing him for being the first prime minister to have the courage to grab the third rail with a plan that claims to fix social care “once and for all”. Far from being “the trolley” wonkily swerving all over the shop, as mockingly depicted by Dominic Cummings, has he not demonstrated that he is a prime minister with a firm grip and the steely will to make brave choices? There is a short answer to that and a long one. Both begin with no.

There are two key elements to this plan. One part does most for the wealthiest and the other part is most painful for people on low wages. There will be an £86,000 cap on the amount any individual has to contribute towards their personal care costs before the state steps in to pay the bills. That is most attractive to those who have lots of savings, an expensive house and other assets. The recipient of care who owns a £1m home will have a much greater proportion of their wealth safeguarded than someone with a £100,000 house.

neoliberaliam: to build a wall... a big beautiful wall... between the rich and the poor, and to make the poor pay for it.

Nowhere.
Neoliberalism is a term used to describe the 20th-century resurgence of 19th-century ideas associated with free-market capitalism. A significant factor in the rise of conservative and libertarian organizations, political parties, and think tanks, and predominately advocated by them, it is generally associated with policies of economic liberalization, including privatization, deregulation, globalization, free trade, austerity and reductions in government spending in order to increase the role of the private sector in the economy and society;

Another purely American affair again where they cant decide where (neo)liberalism sits in their political spectrum which is so right wing anything left of Attila the Hun is off their spectrum.

That is not a particularly well known description of neoliberalism. :ddpan:

Also, while neoliberalism is chiefly associated with the American economist, Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economy, its roots are firmly in Europe. Prominent advocates were L. von Mises (Austria), F. A. von Hayek (Austria), W. Röpke (Germany) and P. Hennipman (Netherlands).

It should be kept in mind as well that neoliberalism is no more a monolithic ideology than social democracy or communism.
