Bugger. How long ago was your last vaccine? Did your doctor have any opinion on whether it might be vaccine related?

That's scary Hermit, hope all goes well for you.
Yeah, the swelling scared me. The rapidity with which it came on while I had a shower around 9pm didn't help. I drove to the local hospital's A&E (stands for All & Everything Department I was told), where I was given an injection of blood thinner and told to make an appointment with the radiologist in the morning. Looking at several thrombi on the screen was not pleasant either. On the bright side, the radiologist was quite pleasant to converse with and easy on the eye. She did not look half her age.

Booster was about four or five months ago. It did not occur to me that the thrombosis might be due to the vaccination until a few days ago. I'll ask next time I get a prescription for the next lot of tablets.

Without being certain, Hermit, to me the length of time since your last jab makes it unlikely to be the causative factor. Hope the medication sorts it out for you...

The medication is doing its job. The swelling gradually disappeared in less than a week.

What caused the blood clots does not matter to me. What matters is that there is a treatment for them. I will not forego vaccinations. If thrombi reappear I know what to do. We have a pretty good health system in Australia. This problem cost me $6.80 so far. That is the fee the pharmacy charged me for filling the prescription. There will be two or three more of those.

I'm so jealous. I got an IV in Turkey for ~30 USD. Meanwhile 5 stitches in the US was over 1000. I only agreed to pay them 200, still too much but they'll never see another dime. --scary rotten they are

Of course in Turkey when the IV was done they just told me to take it out... no problem, just different

I think if that's your vaccine arm then not coincidence and those clots can migrate however if you've had covid that is also a blood clot factor independent of the vaccine.
Too many people I know with issues after covid not after vax.

As long as you are on top of the clots that's fine but several I know have been blindsided not even knowing they had covid and getting hit with clots in a vital area.

ugh
At one point last month, children were admitted to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital with a startling range of seven respiratory viruses. They had adenovirus and rhinovirus, respiratory syncytial virus and human metapneumovirus, influenza and parainfluenza, as well as the coronavirus — which many specialists say is to blame for the unusual surges.
“That’s not typical for any time of year and certainly not typical in May and June,” said Thomas Murray, an infection-control expert and associate professor of pediatrics at Yale. Some children admitted to the hospital were co-infected with two viruses and a few with three, he said.
More than two years into the coronavirus pandemic, familiar viruses are acting in unfamiliar ways. Respiratory syncytial virus, known as RSV, typically limits its suffocating assaults to the winter months.

I saw an article saying that long covid usually goes away after about 8 months. So it's not like you are stuck with it forever.

Source would be nice and I think there is no basis to assume it goes away universally.

The article was based around a long covid clinic in Victoria.

I got the 8 month thing wrong, but it does state most people recover in months.
However, even a small percentage of people with Covid-19 developing long Covid will lead to significant numbers of people affected, given the high overall Covid-19 case numbers in the community. While the majority of these people will recover, this can take months or in very rare cases, years.

Yes you did ...ANY % of the millions is still a very high number. Basically avoid the bugger.
