Little old Omicron finally gets used
C63063CF-46B6-417B-97DC-C22E71CFEA9A.jpeg
I've used all the others. Small case delta was actually typed out in many experimentals. I have never even seen Omicron in text.

We are whittling away at our restrictions. Still some border closures, hotel quarantine for some international arrivals, masks on public transport and mandated vaccination for many jobs, and non essential retail, dining...

Over the past week, I've been showing the printed version of my vaccination certificate a lot. Bars, cafes, restaurants, even our local Bunnings hardware store. The requirement doesn't worry me a bit...

I know that it has echoes of a police state, but there are rational reasons for such systems at the moment. However, there must be a grandfather clause - QR codes, vaccine certification for the general public (as opposed to health workers, for example) must finish sometime next year...

It's not 'echoes', it's a full blown police state kind of measure... there are still a few people here who remember how hearing a German demanding 'Ausweis' could be the last word you heard as a free person if your damn papers were not to his taste.

Omicron not worse than delta. So far it is milder.

Some data suggests that this Omicron variant emerged in Europe in late summer, not in Africa. That would mean that it is potentially not more infectious than Delta.

UK govt rejects disquiet from it's own benches that wearing a mask on a bus is a "gateway to lockdown over Christmas," as well as pooh-poohing independent public health advice for people to scale back socialising over the Xmas period. Basically, Xmas isn't going to be cancelled no matter how much those looney leftwing dictators bleat about it!

I suppose I'll occupy a lower circle of hell for continuing to enjoy a slight frisson of grim satisfaction from these stories. I'm a bad person.

'Anti-vaccine Christian broadcaster Marcus Lamb dies at 64 after contracting Covid'
Marcus Lamb, co-founder and CEO of the conservative Christian Daystar Television Network who vocally opposed Covid vaccines, has died at age 64, weeks after contracting Covid-19, according to the network.
