WHO declares that Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency.

Aye, the WHO says COVID still of international concern and that last week it killed someone every three minutes - which is going to be an under-reporting. WHO still hasn't rescinded it's advice to governments that they need to retain their track and trace systems - but not a single country has heeded that advice. So this announcement is probably partly one that acknowledges the healthcare realities rather than being a purely clinical judgement.

I never would have known there was a global health emergency in the first place without the WHO and the governments who followed in its stead, so... yay?

Stupid because I don't know anyone who got sick or died from covid? That's some special logic.

That's some special blinkers. I don't know anyone who died in WWII....does that mean it never happened?
3 million give or take a few hundred thousand died of covid.
We still wear masks shopping even tho Australia's death toll was very low.
I vividly recall seeing body bags being loaded in New York City ...some 500 a day ....a days drive away.

Dying of covid is a reduced risk .....getting long covid is a horror and that I know from close friends....more than one.
The "emergency" aspect may be over....the pandemic is not.

I don't know anybody who died in WWII either, didn't prevent grannddad from working with the boches to try and limit their depredetions, or the whole family to have been caught in the St Nazaire bulge...

and do I need my great grand uncle to have died in 1870 as a pontifical soldier to know about Garibaldi?

Welp, the RECOVER project has released a paper describing the symptoms of long COVID. Still hoping to avoid having to learn more about that.

'These Are the 12 Major Symptoms of Long COVID'
The new paper reiterates the scientific term for long COVID: post-acute sequelae, or PASC. The 12 symptoms the authors of the study identified as a result of PASC are:
  • loss of smell/taste
  • feelings of malaise after physical activity
  • chronic cough
  • “brain fog” that makes mental activity difficult
  • thirst
  • heart palpitations
  • chest pains
  • fatigue
  • changes in sexual desire
  • dizziness
  • gastrointestinal ailments
  • abnormal movements
  • hair loss

Every now and then I get heart palpitations. I wonder if that's a left over from my infection. I remember getting them when I was infected.

I suspect a lot of it is confirmation bias. I've had a number of those symptoms without ever having had covid.
