Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
My issue with his use of liberty was just that it seems shallow to me. A more honest approach would acknowledge the reality of the threat, and that of our willingness to make changes to meet past threats (All but 3 Republicans supported the Patriot Act, which actually changed things for good it seems) before worrying aloud that these temporary measures seriously threaten our liberties.
Why should Americans take seriously the threat that they will not be allowed to gather with family, or go to church, or frequent their favorite restaurants again? Keep in mind that most of the US is already doing all of these things. There is not even a mask mandate in Texas...

Masks are a big farce. The rule was keep the social distance and wear a mask. These days it is a question of wearing a rag and not keeping distance. Who bothers keeping distance? No one. The mask has defeated the purpose. Most rags dont work anyway.

Average coronavirus particle size 80 nanometers. Average pore size in surgical mask 200 micrometers.
Masks don't stop airborne viruses they're meant to stop people getting their saliva on others.
Bandanas do that just as well.

If that's the numbers, then more than half the particles would hit webbing rather than hole. If it hits the edge at all, it lands or slows down. And particles are not likely to hit a hole at a right angle where the 200 micrometer hole would let it in.DarkestOne wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 4:53 pmAverage coronavirus particle size 80 nanometers. County vases were running at 80 or so a day before the holidays. Even with some 60-70% of those over 65 vaccinated, it's still coming out about 55 new cases each day.

Re: Ratzian news is the best news...
Viruses are not airborne. They are waterborne. They travel attached to droplets that escape your mouth when you sneeze, cough, when you talk and even when you merely breathe. While those droplets are also tiny, most are nowhere near as small as 200 micrometers. Masks don't stop all microdroplets. They do stop most of them. If worn properly and at appropriate times they do help in the fight to contain the spread of the pandemic.DarkestOne wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 4:53 pmAverage coronavirus particle size 80 nanometers. It would be a neat experiment to make a 3 meter panel full of holes, staggered, that are twice the diameter of a tennis ball. Then hit tennis balls at the panel and count balls on each side of the panel after 100 balls.Tero wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 5:32 pmIf that's the numbers, then more than half the particles would hit webbing rather than hole. Re: Ratzian news is the best news...
That's not the math one 1000 nanometer = 1 micrometer
80 nanometer particle in a 200 micrometer pore is 80/200000
Given a tennis ball is about 3 inches in diameter you'd need staggered holes 208 yards plus in diameter.

How many tennis balls / virus particles does it take to penetrate one of the gaps? How many do you need to become infected? What is the number of overlapping layers needed to adequately cover the pores to catch incoming particles? There certainly are not enough in a surgical mask
Now I don't want to call you disingenuous but we've both worked with chemicals and know the difference between masks rated for chemical/biological and ones rated for particulates which is all surgical masks do is protect you from large particulates. That means spittle.
If you want something actually effective against biological agents you have to spend $300 for a good 3m mask with $100 filters that must be replaced every 6 hours or so.

Damn phone with nano and micro looking similar.
Then we'll go with Hermit's water droplet much bigger than virus exolanation. Probably some truth to it. Tiny particles going in all directions is not going to get it far. The droplet of water will carry it farther.

40-50 cases droped to 24 for Fri.
But:
A total of 28 cases of COVID-19 variants have now been identified in Lancaster County:
B.1.427/B.1.429 – California variants, 6 cases
B.1.1.7 – U.K. variant, 21 cases
B.1.351 – South Africa variant, 1 case
