The university here (some 20 000 undergrads) reported a high of 2000 students and staff in quarantine, taking class on Zoom type of thing. That in the first week of spring semester.

Here, well before the virus, increasing amounts of university studies were done on line, so I suspect that they coped better than schools with the various shut downs...

It was a big thing on twitter for a day
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... 19-vaccine

there was not really a chance to bring up the obvious. If the person got the transplant, went on immunosuppressants, and got omicron, it would be a guaranteed hospital trip for the duration of the infection.
Other medical experts have declared their support of the hospital’s policy, noting that the immune system is extremely weak after a transplant, making vaccinations all the more important.

“Post any transplant, kidney, heart whatever, your immune system is shut off. The flu could kill you, a cold could kill you, Covid could kill you,” said Dr Arthur Caplan, the head of medical ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, told CBS Boston.

Woman arrested for paying vulnerable person to get COVID vaccination on her behalf

A South Australian woman who needed a COVID vaccination for her employment has allegedly paid money to a vulnerable person to receive the jab on her behalf.

Police said the woman, 52, from Chapel Hill, near Echunga in the Adelaide hills, accompanied the person to the Mount Barker vaccination clinic on Monday, January 10.

It has been alleged she deceived SA Health workers into giving the person the vaccine in her name by pretending to be the carer of the person.

Police said the woman needed evidence of the vaccination for her employment.

She has been charged with deception and dishonestly dealing with documents.

The woman has been bailed and will face the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on March 30.

omicron children.jpg
Local paper ran a story that says kids have been hospitalized. (The ad cut off the bottom, sorry). Anyway parents are still reluctant to vaccinate kids under 12.

20% of the state had covid the last week or so. I had 8 students Wed, and none had had it this winter. Of the 8 people I have on FB in town, in laws, none had had it. So far I have not talked to any but my son who had omicron. He got it at the Seattle peak and there were weather issues, so he never got tested. So I have not met anyone with omicron that got it confirmed.

Here, most testing now is do-it-yourself with RAT kits. That's how my son Nick knew he was positive, but no certainty it was omicron, just a high probability given the timing and the relatively mild symptoms...
