'Sri Lanka attacks: More than 200 killed as churches and hotels targeted'

Since churches were among the targets, some have blamed radical Muslims. Could very well be, though as of this post there has yet to be a claim of responsibility by anyone. The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka and the All Ceylon Jammiyyathul Ulama (a Muslim scholar group) have condemned the attacks.

I think there's at least an equal chance that it's a resurgent Tamil Tiger group or a group associated with them. The government has taken a number of people into custody, but beyond saying at one point that they had 'local names' is keeping schtum.

If so, they'd attack government buildings, army barracks or perhaps sinhalese shrines, not Christian churches. Jihadists seem the best bet; when there is a communique taking responsibility, I would not be surprised if "revenge for Christchurch" is mentioned...

Good point. I found a story that says the intelligence warning pertained to a radical Muslim group.

It's probably islamists this time, but suicide attacks with tnt belts were invented on Sri Lanka by the secular Tamil Tigers before islamists copied the idea.
