No they act much the same way. Heroin in much easier to make if you have opium than these two synthetics are. But with synthetics you are no longer dependent on a number of poppy growing countries. Europe has one, France. No poppy is grown commercially in US and Canada.

Oxycontin, semisynthetic, is made from either morphine or codeine starting materials.

Naloxone, used to treat overdose, is also made from natural opiates.

There was definitely a cost issue there. But methadone works quite well as an analgesic.

Methadone is used as an analgesic in chronic pain, often in rotation with other opioids.[20][21] Due to its activity at the NMDA receptor, it may be more effective against neuropathic pain; for the same reason, tolerance to the analgesic effects may be less than that of other opioids.

Its long term use for other than heroin addicts may not be useful:

Use beyond a few days may result in methadone accumulation leading to delayed onset of adverse effects. In an assessment over 28 days there was a higher rate of withdrawal due to side effects in the methadone group.

India, France and Tasmania produce all the opium that is needed for the rich coutries to dope up their people. Russia and China probably are self sufficient.

I took endone once for flu aches. I'm sure you're not supposed to use it for that, but fuck it worked!

I'm more or less evaluating the advantages and likely results of dealing with my aches through diclofenac.... it works for some aches, but I don't know if it will work for those.... I HATE effing flus
