McConnel backing some limited electoral college reform:

Senators involved in pushing changes to the electoral certification process say McConnell’s kept his distance while advocating to keep the bill as narrow as possible. But he’s also had a senior aide provide analysis to the group and connected them with at least one constitutional scholar to help them draft the bill, according to Maine Sen. Susan Collins, its lead Republican sponsor.

McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s likely divergent stances on the election law is the latest example of the chasm between the two Republican leaders and how they approach Trump. Lest his position on the Electoral Count Act modernization be forgotten, Trump said Thursday: “REPUBLICAN SENATORS SHOULD VOTE NO!”

That article is almost entirely gossip. It had nothing on the specifics of the established or proposed laws.

Yeah, that is going to be a lot verbiage. And the supreme court will let us use it once and then repeal it.

60% of Americans live in counties that ever change parties in power. By 60/40 or better. If you are in the wrong county, your vote does not count except for senator or president. If you are in the 60% you get your winner, but your party then has "too many votes" in your county, and it still does nor matter if you show up to vote.

Definitely an Anglo-Saxon POV. We had 44 parties at the last election but PR does not suit your method of corruption.

Scary crime is always spiraling out of control. People seem less anxious about the crimes of the rich and powerful. But they’re making headlines all the time now too. Really, I don’t think you can have the corruption we’ve seen in government without also seeing more crime in general.

Independents not buying stolen election story
Wonder why they would mistrust a known liar?
ABC
One bright spot for Democrats on a different question in the ABC News/Ipsos poll is that 58% of independent voters say that if a candidate says they believe that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump, they are less likely to vote for that candidate. Out of 522 Republican nominees for federal and statewide office around the country, 199 question the legitimacy of the last election, according to research compiled by FiveThirtyEight and ABC News.

Democrat scary things no longer scary. Plus Biden causing inflation!
NYT
Other issues playing to Democrats’ strengths had similar trajectories. The House committee investigating the Capitol attack held eight public hearings in June and July, but only one after Labor Day (and it was on Oct. 13, after we conducted our most recent poll). Firearms restrictions are another core issue for Democrats that they often highlight in response to gun violence. The Times cataloged at least nine mass shootings in the two months before our July poll, including the horrific massacres at a grocery store in Buffalo and at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The spate of such mass shootings has, fortunately, faded as well.
