I don't care which language they use, the point (raised by someone I was listening to) was that most of them can't code a few lines of simple code.pErvinalia wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 6:38 amWhy the fuck would you want your representatives to be able to code in C++? And this is from a coder myself.
I can't either, but most of the researchers I know, while telling you they 'can't code', can still create and manage their own databases, write stuff to simply display or otherwise use their data...
When I heard those elders interviewing Zuckerburg, it sounded very much like he was being pecked at by pigeons, rather than questioned by lawmakers.
They often didn't seem to know what they were asking about.

Re: All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
It is true that there is typically a deplorable lack of knowledge about science, maths and technology amongst politicians in general. Perhaps a fairly basic exam should be given to all candidates, to separate the wheat from the chaff...

And they vote for Trump. Science has nothing to do with elections.

Quick question - how many (as a percentage) of Senators can play a tune on the bagpipes or other useful musical instrument?

Re: All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
Musical ability might be a worthy indicator, but the reason I think the coding basics were a good example, is that most of our world is running on code, and most old folks don't even understand why that is important.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 3:52 amQuick question - how many (as a percentage) of Senators can play a tune on the bagpipes or other useful musical instrument?
Seriously, if you didn't watch those old fuckwattles interviewing Zuckerburg, you missed out. Funny stuff.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archi ... udbgf72yEkDonald Trump, the Most Unmanly President
Why don’t the president’s supporters hold him to their own standard of masculinity?
...
They are, as an American Psychological Association feature describes them, men who adhere to norms such as “toughness, dominance, self-reliance, heterosexual behaviors, restriction of emotional expression and the avoidance of traditionally feminine attitudes and behaviors.” But I didn’t need an expert study to tell me this; they are men like my late father and his friends, who understood that a man’s word is his bond and that a handshake means something. They are men who still believe in a day’s work for a day’s wages. They feel that you should never thank another man when he hands you a paycheck that you earned. They shoulder most burdens in silence—perhaps to an unhealthy degree—and know that there is honor in making an honest living and raising a family.
...
And yet, many of these same men expect none of those characteristics from Trump, who is a vain, cowardly, lying, vulgar, jabbering blowhard. Put another way, as a question I have asked many of the men I know: Is Trump a man your father and grandfather would have respected?
