Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

(assuming it happened as he stated, which is a big assumption).
Lol, never assume that anything happened as he stated. He said that he "called his generals" ten minutes before the strike was supposed to happen and asked them how many casualties there would be. That's not how it works. If he discussed attacking Iran with his generals, they would have given him different options, different scenarios, along with casualty estimates. This yarn that he spun about calling generals to ask about potential casualties is all BS.
The way I expect it happened, regardless of the spin he put on it, is that he balked at the point the casualties were outlined. Which we have to consider a good thing, even though it was Trump doing it.
And besides, HE's the one that tore up the Iran agreement for no good reason. HE's the one who sent a carrier group to go flex at Iran. He's been fucking with Iran since day one, so I don't think he deserves credit for putting out a fire that he started.
Yeah this is true. But hopefully he continues to resist the generals calls for war.

Who cares.

My having a laugh at a man like Bolton not getting his way with Trump, and being happy to see in print that the President of the US acknowledged 1. his advisors were goading him into war, and 2. that it was disgusting, validating an important aspect of the narrative of the US as an aggressor, doesn't warrant cries about praise going to Trump, or my needing to buy a MAGA hat.

If "get'em Trump!" can't be seen as an obvious laugh at exactly the absurd situation every one working under him finds themselves in, then that's your problem. I neither praised Trump nor converted to the other side.

It's his job to order them. So yeah. He did.

Then he backed out for whatever reason and is trying to spin it in his favour. And it's clearly worked.
So he's a piece of shit for ordering the strike and a piece of shit for cancelling it. Ok, he's a piece of shit. Where does that leave us?

Hawks like Bolton and Pumpedoo are pieces of shit riding the popularity of a piece of shit, but anything that sidelines those dogmammit pieces of shit's apocalyptic holy war bollocks is better than the alternative.

I can think of a dozen different alternatives and they all involve no Trump, Republicans, Christian end-timers, arms lobbyists, climate change denialists, free-market fundamentalists, KKK and Nazis, robber barons, and rapists and their enablers.

But you savour your miniscule victory.

I'm declaring no victory here - that's an idea you've just brought to the table - I'm just relieved Trump pulled back from the brink and surprised he called his hawks out on their warmongering - which by my lights is better than the alternative.

This polarising rhetoric isn't productive Ani. It's a tool Capital uses to pit those who oppose and challenge its premises against each other. Despite what Capital tries to teach us every hour of every day, one's identity isn't defined or validated by those who we stand against but through those who we stand with.

I oppose Trump and everything he stands for and represents, and yet you seem to want to stand against me because I don't couch my opposition in terms you can approve of; in terms you can validate. Ask yourself why those conditions apply and who benefits most from that situation.

I have to agree with you on this. The belligerent tone of some of the louder critics of the right has become highly intolerant of anyone not ‘on message’ and willing to take the same tone and approach as them. I’m not pointing at Ani in particular, but the approach that ‘if you aren’t as shrill and angry as us, you are against us’ is something one comes across quite a lot these days. I don’t like it one bit.

I quack when I feel I have something interesting to quack about, not to be one of the pack.
