Capitalism is not just about money, but most about control. refusing a lot of money in exchange for surrendering control over a major medium is not anti capitalist by nature, since those who refuse the money know they be cut out of influence of that medium for a long time with no way of coming back to a significant interest in the capital.

Seems a long reach to me. My guess is that Elon is making money, somehow. Probably, the fact that they WON'T sell can earn him fat cash. Reminds me of that Robin-Hood/Gamestop shorting episode, where the FACT of the skeezy business made it possible to wrench a bunch of money out of a hedge-fund. I didn't understand all of it, but I would guess the guy working at game stop still has a tough time making rent, and a bunch of rich people got richer in the end.

Maybe I'm a bit cynical...A Batman would be much more fun.

He's doing theatrics of some kind, along with some business 'moves'. I am sure he is self interested, but those things don't yield much. Just that it's funny as fuck watching him gather a chorus behind corporate-controlled censorship and its suspicious ownership.

Batman is a damaged vigilante billionaire who uses mass surveillance, tech, and extreme violence to maintain the system and the corporate status quo. So that's quite a good comparison. But the second half is... well... shall we just say that that's how confirmation bias works, and leave it at that?

Perhaps Musk wants a controlling stake in Twitter because he just wants to control it, and to use it to serve whatever his interests are without the rules applying to him? That would be the Batman thing to do.
