Republican Senators are not going to vote for gun control, background checks etc. There will not be 60 votes. Nothing will happen.

(My senator. He talks a lot but never says anything that he follows up with.)
"The left wants a powerful, nameless but supposedly benevolent bureaucracy, the right wants a strongman daddy figure," said Sasse in a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. "But the loudest of them all agree on one thing: America — the one the founders gave us, the one kept for us by our parents and grandparents —  it doesn't work anymore."

Much of Sasse's speech included criticisms of the Democratic Party — which he says is "increasingly drunk on elite leftism" and has "little room for honest debate" — as well as President Joe Biden's August withdrawal from Afghanistan.

More (note: Sasse will be re-elected, Trump not!)
Meanwhile, Trump — still the undisputed leader of the Republican Party — recently said he never should have endorsed Sasse for re-election to the Senate in 2020.

"He's bad news, Ben Sasse," Trump said during a tele-rally in May. "He begged for my endorsement, the day after he started hitting me and we hit much harder than he knows how to hit."

Trump has railed against Sasse before as well, calling him a "loser," a "sleazebag," and a "quiet little boy" in a 2021 interview with The Federalist.

From last month, a nice array of bullshit and lies supplied by the National Republican Senatorial Committee for the use of good Republicans everywhere on the abortion issue.

NRSC Dobbs Talking Points

Also from last month, an outstanding example of the Republican pro-life crusade ...
Republicans just voted against two bills to ease the baby formula shortage they have spent weeks falsely trying to pin on President Joe Biden.

In tweets and in floor speeches, Republicans have been attacking President Biden for the nationwide baby formula shortage caused by one manufacturer’s recall and closure of its plant for bacterial infection after two infants died. The shortage has been exacerbated by a trade agreement signed by then-President Donald Trump that makes it extremely difficult and expensive to import formula from other countries, and the fact that 90 percent of baby formula in the U.S. is manufactured by just four companies. Also, hoarding, and price-gouging.

Last week President Biden sat down with manufacturers and retailers to map out a plan to get more formula onto store shelves immediately and directed the Food and Drug Administration to help get the plant reopened. This week he went two steps further: he invoked the Defense Production Act to force manufacturers to produce more formula and produce it ahead of other products and created a program to use federal planes to import baby formula from other countries.

Goddam it, not all Republicans!! As Seabass reminded us, Forty Two often pointed out that racism is very unpopular in the US. :sulk:

'Blake Masters Blames Gun Violence on "Black People, Frankly"'
Tech investor and Arizona Republican Senate hopeful Blake Masters acknowledges that the United States has a gun violence problem. But he also has a theory about why there’s a problem—it’s “Black people, frankly.”

Masters boiled the issue down in an April 11 interview on the Jeff Oravits Show podcast, telling the host that “we do have a gun violence problem in this country, and it’s gang violence.”

“It’s people in Chicago, St. Louis shooting each other. Very often, you know, Black people, frankly,” Masters clarified. “And the Democrats don’t want to do anything about that.”

It’s unclear why Masters—who has pushed the baseless “great replacement” conspiracy theory narrative—felt compelled to single out Black people. Moments earlier in the interview, during a discussion about Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings, Masters told Oravits that “most Americans just, you know, just want to stop obsessing about race all the time,” adding that “the left’s biggest tool in their toolkit is just to divide people on the basis of race, and that’s really messed up.”

Republicans frequently cite urban gang violence, most often in Chicago, in attempts to tap out of the gun control debate. While their redirections are often as misleading as they are cliche, those officials aren’t always as forthright as Masters about the racial undertones.

But Masters, whom the white nationalist website VDARE fêted last year as an “immigration patriot,” was quite clear about his vision of two Americas.

Gun control is dead. Bipartisan Manchin achieved nothing.
Manchin can also claim "savings" to US gov't by ruining Obamacare subsidies.
