Re: Republicans: continued
The core raison d'etre of the Republican Part is something which they simply cannot articulate publicly: We are the party of the rich, so fuck you! They are not a political party as such--an organisation structured to attain and administrate power on behalf of an electorate--but a civic, social and fraternal association which forwards the material interests of its members and contributors. This is why it work so hard to position themselves as a reactionary force, opposing all forms of social, legal/constitutional, economic, or democratic progress - any of which would limit the ability of their members and contributors to make more money than they could possibly need. The greatest fear of any Republican is that they'll die a little bit poorer than the guy sitting next to them.
A pathological desire to be the riches person in the graveyard is not a sound basis on which to run a society.

That is an equally apt description of the Democrat Party. With the exception of a few outliers their politicians are bought and paid for by the usual moneyed strata.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 9:07 amThe core raison d'etre of the Republican Part is something which they simply cannot articulate publicly: We are the party of the rich, so fuck you! I am not saying the two organisations are indistinguishable, though. While both serve as pipers of those who pay for their tunes, they each adopt different means to do their masters' bidding.

It's an updated graphic of a version Forbes published here.
As for "Democrat Party" being an epithet, I was not aware of that. Now that you have pointed it out to me I will not use that term again. Thank you.Forbes wrote:Tracking Billionaire Donations Over Time

It's relatively subtle, but unmistakable. With the advent of Trumpism as the core of the Republican Party it has become rare for a Republican to use the correct terminology.

It is not general knowledge in Australia. Maybe the decision by the Democratic National Committee ("We are the Democratic Party.") to name its website democrats.org/ helps obscure the fact a bit.L'Emmerdeur wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:25 amIt's relatively subtle, but unmistakable. Re: Republicans: continued
MAGATs only 10%?
Again, we can’t assume that these percentages all overlap. But we get a consistent picture. Over and over, about 10 percent of the population (plus or minus a few percentage points) expresses the sort of view that Biden articulated: Republican or Republican-leaning and in favor of the positions he associated with “MAGA.”

Trumpian cadidate comes out saying the debate is rigged, before it started. Then trashed mostly Pelosi.
https://www.denverpost.com/2022/09/10/l ... -election/“You are a Green New Deal extremist,” Boebert said to Frisch. “These are extreme policies. They’re hurting Americans. You’re saying you’re (for) all-of-the-above, saying you’re a moderate. That’s another part of the con game that Americans are waking up to.”
The congresswoman also accused Frisch — without adding much specificity — of running a “covert government operation” in the “dead of night” to shut down Aspen development and to kill blue-collar jobs.
Boebert on the other hand, directed most of her closing comments toward Democrats as a whole, saying they hired 87,000 IRS agents “to come after you,” accusing them of opening the borders and shutting down energy production in Colorado.
“It is not time to help Nancy Pelosi, it is time to fire Nancy Pelosi,” Boebert said. “This election say ‘no’ to liberal extremists and their army of IRS agents.”
While Saturday night’s event was the only traditional debate scheduled between the two candidates before the Nov. 8 election, they will also appear next month in an online forum hosted by the League of Women voters.
