The right wing outrage over the Bud Light 'beer' marketing fling featuring a trans person has got some champions in the US Senate now. Everybody's favorite festering hemorrhoid, Senator Ted Cruz, has been joined by lady hair farmer Senator Marsha Blackburn in calling for an investigation of the insidious atrocity being committed upon the youth of America. Since young people are a significant percentage of that trans person's followers online, Bud Light is clearly marketing alcohol to them.

A pair of Senate Republicans want the federal government to investigate a beer commercial with a transgender woman.

Ted Cruz of Texas and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee are calling for congressional oversight and an investigation into Bud Light’s marketing strategy with trans social media personality Dylan Mulvaney, escalating a weeks-long, transphobic right-wing obsession with an Instagram video featuring the actress and cans of beer.

In their letter from the Senate’s commerce committee that repeatedly misgenders Ms Mulvaney, the senators urged Anheuser Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth to “sever its relationship” with Ms Mulvaney, “publicly apologize”, and force her to delete “any Anheuser-Busch content” on her social media platforms, or submit to an investigation from a trade association.

The senators added that the beer company’s “clear failure to exercise appropriate due diligence when selecting online influencers” – which in this case merely included Ms Mulvaney receiving a can with her face on it while promoting a basketball tournament – “warrants detailed oversight by Congress.”

The letter demands that Anheuser Busch send “all documents and communications” between the company and Ms Mulvaney, among a host of other documents, “so that Congress can exercise its oversight authority.”

The senators alleged that the company relied on Ms Mulvaney to specifically target people who are too young to drink, by arguing that Ms Mulvaney – who is 26 years old – calls herself a girl and uses social media platforms with young people on them.

Republicans hold the US economy (and to some extent the rest of the world economy) hostage, insisting that social programs that help the poor, aged, and disabled need to be cut because 'deficit.' Meanwhile they're planning to extend tax breaks for the wealthy and large corporations, which will increase the deficit. Beauty!

With the U.S. careening toward a default crisis that they manufactured, House Republicans are reportedly crafting a major tax cut package that would overwhelmingly benefit the rich and corporations while blowing a multitrillion-dollar hole in the federal deficit.

The fresh push for tax cuts, according to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), further shows that "this hostage crisis has never been about deficits for the GOP."

"It has always been about wealth transfer—taking away food and healthcare from the poor and middle class to give away $3 trillion more in tax cuts to their rich friends," Omar, the deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, tweeted Tuesday.

Politicoreported earlier this week that Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee hope to finish work on their emerging tax legislation by June 16, just over two weeks after the so-called "X-date"—the day on which the Treasury Department expects the federal government to run out of money to cover its obligations unless Congress raises the debt limit or President Joe Biden acts unilaterally.

"Republicans are holding our economy hostage because they want to cut programs for working families," Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) said Tuesday. "Their next big move? Massive tax cuts for their rich corporate buddies. They may call it fiscal responsibility—I call it extortion."

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated last week that extending the individual provisions of the 2017 tax cuts—which are currently set to expire in 2025—would add $2.5 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. The original law made the cut to the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% permanent.

"The hypocrisy of Republicans in Washington is truly breathtaking," Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wrote in a Fox News op-ed on Wednesday.

The committee vote came as Paxton, who commended Cruz for his comments, is under investigation in a corruption case being led by the FBI over accusations that the attorney general used his office to assist a donor. He was also indicted in 2015 on securities and fraud charges, but hasn't yet faced a trial.

Multiple aides from Paxton's office became concerned that the attorney general was misusing the office's power to help donor Nate Paul regarding unproven claims of a conspiracy to steal $200 million of his properties was taking place.

Cruz wrote, "Virtually all of the information in the articles was public BEFORE Election Day, and the voters chose to re-elect Ken Paxton by a large margin. In my view, the Texas Legislature should respect the choice of the Texas voters."
