The latest fake news on the braggart lecher Gaetz from the failing New York Times is that he requested a get out of jail free card from the Trump administration. You know, just in case the horrible leftists came after him for being such a vocal supporter of the former president.

'Matt Gaetz sought a preemptive pardon from Trump before he left office, according to report'
Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida sought "blanket pardons" for himself and his political allies from President Donald Trump shortly before Trump left office in January, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The Times, citing two people familiar with the discussions, said Gaetz asked the Trump White House, in its final weeks, to grant him immunity for any crimes for which he might later be convicted.

Gaetz is currently being investigated by the Justice Department over whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him, and broke sex trafficking laws by doing so.

The department began investigating Gaetz late last summer as part of a broader inquiry into the former Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg, who was indicted last August on 14 felony counts, including carrying out the sex trafficking of a minor between the ages of 14 and 17. Last week, it was reported that the girl at the heart of the Gaetz inquiry is the same one who was involved in the sex trafficking charge against Greenberg.

Federal prosecutors started investigating Gaetz under then Attorney General William Barr's tenure, and Barr and several other senior Trump appointees at the Justice Department were briefed on the probe. The Times reported that it was "unclear" if Gaetz or the White House "knew at the time of the inquiry, or who else he sought pardons for."

The Florida Republican "did not tell White House aides that he was under investigation for potential sex trafficking violations when he made the request," the newspaper said.

Gaetz's granddaddy will be spinning in his grave.

Oh, I don't know. Can the political faction that is literally trying to stop black people from voting be considered "the bad guys"? There is no gray area with the Republicans anymore. There is literally nothing good about the current Republican party.

Richardson reports that Ken Williamson wants people to know that he's 'not a Republican.' On the other hand, he seems comfortable with the concept of taking measures to eliminate voting fraud (which is known to be extremely rare in the US). That the contemporary 'patriotic' defense of voting integrity is a transparent ruse meant only to provide a rationale for vote suppression doesn't seem to trouble him, since he supports vote suppression anyway.

There appears to be a logical disconnect in his piece that Richardson didn't mention. He touts the superiority of the US system, in which it's representatives of the people who are charged with making decisions about the direction of the government. He really doesn't want direct democracy, and is pleased that the US doesn't do things that way. That's all very well, but at the end of his little screed we find the following:
Progressives and populists like to blame lobbyists, special interests, “the Swamp,” insiders, “the Establishment,” vested interests, shadowy corporate titans, and sundry boogeymen for our current straits, but the fact is that voters got us into this mess. Maybe the answer isn’t more voters.
How did voters get the US 'into this mess'? Just the way Ken Williamson thinks the US government should operate, it was the people's representatives who made the decisions that brought about the current circumstance.

Should voters be required to validate their identity similarly to those wanting to purchase a firearm? Or is voter ID, like infringing on gun rights, just racist?

Not only does the U.S. lead the world in per capita incarcerations, but in total number of people behind bars. The U.S. has less than one-quarter of the population of China, yet has more people in jail than the world’s most-populous nation.
To be fair, that may be because:

#1 China would not count its incarcerated Uighars in their numbers

#2 Chinese dissidents in unmarked graves don't count either...

Both legitimate points. So Senator Cotton is right. If the US wishes to maintain its position and not let China usurp it surreptitiously, it needs to put more people in prison.

The vaunted 'freedom to choose for individuals' which is in reality a line of bullshit enabling oppression. That's OK though, because it's aimed at those horrible, nasty types that mistakenly differentiate between sex and gender, and other damned perverts. The socialist, woke Democrats would never take such a commendable stance in support of freedom. Go, freedom!

'Montana GOP Lawmakers Pass Discriminatory Anti-LGBTQ "Religious Freedom" Bill'
Lawmakers in the Montana House and Senate have passed a “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” bill that will allow any person or business to discriminate against anyone for any reason if not doing so would violate their religious beliefs.

House Democrats supported an amendment that would not allow the law to be used to discriminate but Republicans refused to support it.

“Do not make me NOT do what my God tells me I have to do,” Republican Rep. John Fuller, opposing the amendment, said during Thursday’s debate, the AP reports.

“The LGBTQ community opposes the bill, arguing it could lead to challenges against ordinances in several cities that prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression,” the AP adds. “The Montana Human Rights Act does not prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.”

The Human Rights Campaign says the bill is “similar” to the “religious freedom” bill then-Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed into law, causing nationwide outrage.

“This bill is so sweeping and so dangerous that under it, LGBTQ Montanans could be denied access to PREP and PEP and other life-saving medications by pharmacies,” HRC said via Twitter.
