I blame those pesky atheists.

It's bad faith bullshit throughout from the 'conservative' justices. So it goes.

You'd think those who claim that 'free speech is firmly on the right' might be having second thoughts after the various demands for banning of books that have issued from the right in the US. More likely a series of rationalizations and deflections would be the response.
This year, the American Library Association says it's seen more calls to ban books than in the last two decades as terrified GOP governors, lawmakers and school boards rush to stop time and America's changing demographic by banning an array of books - by or about women, people of color, the LGBTQ community - in a move that will only eliminate a primary "safe space" for students "who desperately want and need books that reflect their lives." It's happening in Texas, Ohio, New Jersey, South Carolina, where Gov. Henry McMaster demanded the award-winning Gender Queer: A Memoir be pulled from school shelves, vowing in all his malignant idiocy that, “We’re going to remove things that cause harm to our children or put obstacles in their path as they grow up." In Virginia, where a county school board voted 6-0 to begin removing "sexually explicit" books from shelves, a couple of members went one better and urged they be burned to ensure "we are eradicating this bad stuff."

Unsurprisingly, Florida is right there with them, especially after a school board member sparked outrage by taking a bunch of kids on a field trip to - gasp - a local LGBTQ-friendly bar and grill for lunch. The state is the birthplace of Moms For Liberty, begun last year by three right-wing moms and "joyful warriors" to fight against mask mandates, now on "a mission to stoke the fires of liberty" by passing on parents' unholy ignorance to their kids. Its reported 60,000 members in 33 states start meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer, read from the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, attend school board meetings to rage against masks, and wear t-shirts boasting, "We do not co-parent with the government."

[From a random leftist rant]

Fucking shithead mountebanks, helping pull their gullible constituents into terminal zealotry. What's a few hundred or few thousand more deaths, when balanced against continuing to hold elective office? They will maintain their bilious moment of power: Despite its guaranteed effectiveness with many Republican voters, the firebell rhetoric of 'tyranny' and 'freedom, liberty' is entirely cynical.

'Parson lashes out after news report reveals his office buried a study showing mask mandates work'
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson on Thursday said a news story that reported his office had buried a study showing mask mandates work was “purposefully misleading.”

Parson issued a statement via social media late Thursday, a day after the story was released by the Missouri Independent.

The governor said the reporter, Rudi Keller, “handpicked information from a Sunshine request then took the data out of context in order to fit his narrative.”

...

The reporters found that Gov. Mike Parson’s office had requested an analysis on the effectiveness of mask mandates. The request was made in a Nov. 1 email by Alex Tuttle, Parson’s liaison to the health department.

“Can you provide examples of local mandates and how those mandates impacted the spread of COVID in those areas?” Tuttle wrote.

The department completed the analysis two days later.

It consists of two charts: one that compared the infection rates in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Kansas City and Jackson County with the rest of the state, and another that compared death rates.

The four jurisdictions imposed mask mandates in late July and early August during a surge of COVID-19 cases caused by the delta variant.

The comparison showed infection rates in “masked” jurisdictions were higher than the rest of the state in the six weeks prior to the emergence of the delta variant. But then that changed.

The data shows that, from the end of April to the end of October, jurisdictions with mask mandates experienced an average of 15.8 cases per day for every 100,000 residents compared to 21.7 cases per day for every 100,000 residents in “unmasked” communities.

...

The analysis was never included in material the health department prepared for cabinet meetings, the Independent reported. Neither the health department nor Parson’s office responded to the news organization’s requests for comment asking why the report was not shared publicly.

Parson has said he is against mask mandates, which he reiterated Thursday: “If you want to wear a mask, wear one. However, I do not support government issued mask mandates that infringe on our personal liberties.”

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt has sued St. Louis, St. Louis County, Kansas City, Jackson County and Columbia Public Schools over their mask mandates saying they are “not supported by the data or the science.”

Devin Nunes, the doofus Republican representative known for his butthurt over a nasty Twitter cow and a fake Twitter mother, is moving to the private sector--social media in fact. :hehe:

'GOP Rep. Devin Nunes to leave Congress to lead new Trump media company'
Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., one of former President Donald Trump's most loyal defenders, is leaving Congress to become CEO of the Trump Media and Technology Group, NBC News confirmed Monday.

"Congressman Devin Nunes is a fighter and a leader. He will make an excellent CEO of TMTG," Trump said in a statement released by the company. "Devin understands that we must stop the liberal media and Big Tech from destroying the freedoms that make America great. America is ready for TRUTH Social and the end to censorship and political discrimination.”
