I can see the Republicans' new plan after this.

Kevin McCarthy proves to America: government bad!
https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/402 ... e-victory/
McCarthy just orchestrated the largest spending reduction in U.S. history, including substantial cuts across various sectors of government expenditure. This feat not only demonstrates Republican commitment to fiscal responsibility but also highlights his ability to galvanize support and achieve tangible results.

It's interesting that the US public seem to have been trained to only associate public spending with the deficit while ignoring subsidies and massive tax cuts for corporations and the super rich.

That was a cringey cheer. :?

It’s been disheartening listening to the rich this year. What I’ve learned is that they’re deeply saddened by the need to crush workers, but positive that education will help average people see it’s the only way forward. :tea:

This is kind of interesting. McCarthy got elected only by including freedom caucus. He put in all those committee chairs chasing nonsense, defending Trump.

Now they lost him. So they should vote him out. But then they would lose the committee assignments they now have.

I posted this elsewhere too. It seemed not important there. But I think we will look back on this and note that it was this McCarthy move that broke MAGA. They are not listening to Trump anymore. Now, how will the primary go?

The people getting "food stamps" must work 20 hours a week, for those without dependents.

Work in actual jobs, or government make-jobs? If the former, what if they can't get a job? Do they lose the benefit?

You get free food for 3 months. Then limits set in:

If you are age 18–49, able to work, and don’t have any dependents, you might need to meet both the general work requirements and an additional work requirement for ABAWDs to get SNAP for more than 3 months in 3 years

Work at least 80 hours a month. Work can be for pay, for goods or services (for something other than money), unpaid, or as a volunteer;
Participate in a work program at least 80 hours a month. A work program could be SNAP Employment and Training or another federal, state, or local work program;

Freedom caucus wagging finger at McCarthy. If you don't behave...
“They basically just cut the deal and then told us. And we had to react, because now we’re being asked to respond and vote on a deal that was cut, not with our approval. And I was happy to give him a lot of rope. You know, go out there, do what you can. But you got to kind of come back,” Roy said.

Roy said he has already spoken with McCarthy directly and plans to sit down with him again next week to talk further.

The open rebellion by the Freedom Caucus has been deeply disappointing to Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.), a lead GOP negotiator of the debt limit bill who has helped McCarthy manage the House GOP caucus’s “five families” – a reference to “The Godfather” – since the Speaker’s election. Graves was particularly bothered by the criticism from Roy, whom he said had come to respect.

“We have some relationship repair that needs to happen,” Graves said. “We’re going to need to sit down and talk and probably over several bottles of something initially.”
