48% in Gallup poll look for GOP to lead. In midterm! The congress not lead. The president does. Open borders! Fentanyl! Ukraine! Loose on crime!

Ignorant dolt, lying sack of shit, or racist boob? All three or take your pick.

'Historians Trash DeSantis' Understanding of U.S. History--"Beyond Ignorance"'
Ron DeSantis has been accused of mixing "fact and fiction" by leading historians over his comments about early U.S. history.

Speaking on Tuesday the Florida Governor claimed it was the "American revolution that caused people to question slavery."

He added: "Nobody had questioned it before we decided as Americans that we are endowered by our creator with inalienable rights and that we are all created equal. Then that birthed abolition movements."

...

However, speaking to Newsweek four prominent American historians rejected his argument, with one branding it "completely incorrect."

Reacting to DeSantis's comments Professor Karin Wulf, who specializes in eighteenth-century British America at Brown University, said: "On at least three levels this is wrong.

"The idea of natural rights didn't originate with the American revolutionaries; they were reflecting ideas that were widespread among political thinkers, perhaps most obviously the 17th century English political philosopher John Locke. The United States as a government did not act against slavery in any form until 1807 (prohibition of the Atlantic slave trade) and acted in key ways to protect it right up to the Civil War (the fugitive slave act).

"Most egregiously, the idea that 'no one' questioned slavery erases enslaved people themselves who were active in resisting slavery both as individuals and collectively and in refusing the logic and legality of their enslavement."
Apparently the enslaved themselves don't really count as 'somebody', and the others who opposed slavery before America broke with Britain were 'nobodies' as well.

DeSantis the greasy overstuffed suit 'will not allow schools to twist history to align with an ideological agenda' except when he does it himself.

Firebrand (=asshole, simpleton) in some trouble
Republican firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert is dangerously close to being upset by a little-known Democratic rival, a new poll in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District shows.

By the numbers: Boebert received support from 47% of likely voters, while Democrat Adam Frisch landed at 45% — making the race a statistical tie within the ±4.4 percentage point margin of error.

7% of voters are undecided, per the poll.
The survey, taken Sept. 29–Oct. 2 by Keating Research, a Democratic firm and one of the most accurate pollsters in Colorado, represents a 5-point swing toward Frisch. In July, Boebert held a 49%-42% advantage.

Unaffiliated voters — those not aligned with a major political party — strongly dislike Boebert, who's known for her Christian nationalist rhetoric, opposition to bipartisan legislation, and lighting rod remarks about guns and immigration. Those voters are shifting toward Frisch as the election progresses, pollsters said.
What they're saying: "With Boebert under 50%, that means she is vulnerable to losing this race," Chris Keating, president and founder of Keating Research, told Axios Denver on Tuesday.

Yes, but: The 3rd District on Colorado's Western Slope overwhelmingly favors Republicans, and the race is not considered competitive by national experts.

Boebert is a fundraising juggernaut and frequent surrogate supporter for Republican candidates across the country.

Our senator Sasse quit, going to academia. The governor gets to name a replacement. The new senator will be chosen 2024 November. So since Ricketts himself is done due to term limits, there is nothing to stop him from appointing himself for the two years.

Threats to officials in other states, even on social media, are federal crimes:

Who are the Georgia MAGA idiots?
Cookie Wozniak, 77, said: “She’s a fighter. I believe in her, I have a lot of respect for her. She’s a real bulldog and a true patriot. I worry about our country being so divisive and they’re using the race card on everything. People want to destroy our history.”

Carla McFarland, 65, an air force veteran and retired nurse practitioner, added: “I have always been impressed from the first that I heard she was running. Nothing has changed my core belief in not only Marjorie Taylor Greene but the Maga [Make America great again] America First thought process.”

Yet in a crowded Republican primary in which she was the only woman, Greene stood out and gained the most votes. She brought “all the authority, anger and everything of a metro Atlanta soccer mom”, recalled one local political observer, who did not wish to be named.

Wendy Davis, 57, a political consultant and two-term city commissioner, said: “The runoff was basically who loves Trump more? Although the media and some people had dug into this QAnon mess that she was a part of, none of the other Republicans made that an issue in their primary. Nobody had said, ‘She’s a little out there’. Nobody had said, ‘What do you mean September 11 was a fake inside job?’.

“Nobody challenged her on that and so she was able to win. If you’ve got eight people saying the same thing, who are you going to pick? You’re going to pick the person who says what you feel like is most authentically. She was very believable. Like I sleep with my dog, I think she sleeps with her gun. She gives you this feeling that gun is very important to her.”

It's what it is. The president is treated as if he were the tribal leader. Same with governors, senators.

Like a tribe of 500 people who were maybe peasants somewhere 2000 years ago. When the disconnect is what it is, a leader is not suitable for much of the country and does not represent. If you are the tribe of 500, you just have to consider if you want to stay or leave. Then you put up with the poor leader. Because he is better than the worse leader before.

The congress people are sent to basically be lackeys and supporters of this great leader. Trump. They have no role making laws anymore.

As the old adage goes, a leopard never changes its spots.
Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen: I ‘don’t believe that Donald is actually going to run in 2024.’
By KK Ottesen

You wrote that you helped create this Frankenstein monster and let it out of its cage, so you feel a moral duty, or that it’s your penance, to make sure that we re-cage the beast. Do you mean the individual, or the example of exploiting the system with impunity?

I’m specifically speaking of the individual himself. Donald Trump never wanted to be president of the United States. The entire campaign originated from a desire to increase the visibility of the brand. And Donald was frequently heard saying, “This is going to be the greatest political infomercial in the history of U.S. politics.” Once he tasted power, I knew that he would never want to give it up. He always admired dictators, monarchs, authoritarians, supreme leaders. And when I stated that we need to put Frankenstein’s monster back in its cage, I believe it’s the only way to silence MAGA and the cult of Donald J. Trump.

I also don’t believe that Donald is actually going to run in 2024. Because I believe that he knows that he cannot win and that, even if he did choose to run, that he will face opposition for the Republican nomination. He also knows very well, statistically, that he cannot win the general election. He’s lost those independents now, based upon Roe v. Wade, climate, student relief, etc. So what he’ll do is he will seek to remain relevant in the party by becoming a power broker and believing that whichever nominee he backs and endorses will owe him a duty of loyalty so that, in the event that his day of reckoning comes, they will terminate or pardon him from the plethora of litigation and consequences that currently plagues him.
