Re: The End of NATO
NATO is not an economic organisation. It is an organisation for aggression and should be scrapped.

Defense, man, defense!
We used to have a Department of War, in 1947 it became the Department of Defense. War is Peace.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It's a defensive org, and is necessary so long as Russia will be expansionistScot Dutchy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 3:27 pmNATO is not an economic organisation. It is an organisation for aggression and should be scrapped.

Re: The End of NATO
It's a remnant of WW II when evil USSR remained. Nice man Putin only take Crimea and make Ukraine which is the homeland of Russia to start with.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late
Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Re: The End of NATO
Remnant of the cold war facing the Warsaw Pact. Both the biggest cons ever.

Not the biggest con, religion takes that crown.

Re: The End of NATO
Surely NATO is like insurance for your country - you pay the fee and you're guaranteed to have strong allies come to your aid in times of need. It guarantees the peace of a lot of countries who may not be so secure otherwise. The US has always complained about how much everyone else contributes, it's like a tradition that no one has ever dared to kick at the foundations of it before because everyone just nodded, exchanged polite niceties, and continued on as before, the last time a POTUS came around saying the same thing.

Re: The End of NATO
Which country has it ever protected? All it did is earn American arms dealers trillions.

Re: The End of NATO
It surely prevented many conflicts. How can you question the utility NATO has proven to have in fomenting peace and preventing acts of aggression?
Being in a large alliance protects you from the aggression of nasty actors - the large part of this is preventative. The fact that NATO hasn't had to come to the defense of any of its member nations isn't a mark of failure, it's tremendous success.

Re: The End of NATO
problem is that Putin is a product of the Soviet culture, and he wants Russia to retrieve its old empire, being the biggest country on earth is not enough.

Re: The End of NATO
NATO did it for the USSR and they do it for Russia. There was a period in the 90s where I might agree that NATO was mostly useless, but Russia woke from hibernation in the early naughties, and since then their aggression has been checked, or at least curbed.
