'Trump's Florida Golf Course Is Looking To Bring In Even More Foreign Workers'

The Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, has asked the government for permission to hire more temporary foreign workers on top of an additional request it filed last week, according to records posted by the Department of Labor on Wednesday.

This time, the club is seeking two cooks, who will be paid $13.31 per hour, to work from October 1 to the end of May. Last week, the club also sought permission to hire 10 foreigners to work as waiters. And in recent weeks, another Trump property, Mar-a-Lago, which President Donald Trump calls the "Winter White House," sought permission to hire 78 temporary foreign workers to serve as waiters, cooks, and housekeepers.

Trump campaigned on a promise to defend US jobs and to tighten immigration policies, and has made his “America First” platform a centerpiece of decisions on economic policy and trade. Nonetheless, since he launched his presidential campaign in June 2015, businesses owned by Trump or bearing his name have sought to hire more than 530 foreign guest workers, including more than 280 for Mar-a-Lago and at least 40 for the Jupiter club.

In response to questions about the practice in the past, Trump has said it is “very, very hard to get help” in Florida during the tourist season.

he White House was under growing pressure on Thursday to provide a full account of Donald Trump’s private talks earlier this week with Vladimir Putin, as Russian officials spoke of “important verbal agreements” made.

As some Democrats went as far as to push for the US translator in the room during Monday’s summit in Helsinki to give an account to Congress, Putin on Thursday hailed the meeting as a “success”.

In the aftermath of the outcry from Democrats and some Republicans around Trump’s remarks, in which he sided with Putin rather than US intelligence over Russian interference in US elections, attention shifted to what was said in the private talks.

his was heightened after comments on Wednesday by Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, who told reporters in Moscow the two leaders had reached “important verbal agreements”, including preservation of the New Start and INF arms control agreements.

Antonov, who called the meeting “important, comprehensive, productive and constructive”, said the Russian president had made “specific and interesting proposals to Washington” on how the two countries could cooperate on Syria....

The House voted Thursday to make it harder for the government to punish churches that get involved in politics.

In a 217-199 vote, lawmakers approved legislation barring the IRS from revoking the tax-exempt status of churches that back political candidates, unless it is specifically approved by the commissioner of the agency.

The provision, buried in a budget measure setting IRS funding for the upcoming year, amounts to a backdoor way around the so-called Johnson amendment, a half-century-old prohibition on nonprofits getting involved in political campaign activities.

As a conservative, I despair at Republicans' support for Trump. His vision is not conservatism
Given a chance to hold Russia accountable for its attacks on the American election, its annexation of Crimea, its aggression in Ukraine, its role as an enabler of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, or the murder of journalists and political opponents, Trump chose instead to blame “both sides”..
For years, Republicans derided what they saw as Obama’s fecklessness on the world stage, including what they called his “apology tour”. Trump, we were told, would change all of that by projecting strength and standing up for American values. Instead, we got last week’s parade of sycophancy and abasement.

This ought to have been a clarifying moment. Trump was supposed to be the Man on the White Horse who promised that he alone could solve all of our problems. Instead, he looked like Putin’s caddy.
Understandably, this feeds the impression that we should regard Trumpism as a logical and organic outgrowth of conservatism rather than an existential threat to that tradition. That is, of course, the view from the (Sean) Hannitized right, which insists that opposition to Trump among so-called Never Trumpers is a form of apostasy.

But a similar argument is advanced by a chorus on the left. “Donald Trump Was the Inevitable Result of Republicanism”, declared a recent headline in Esquire. With every passing week, as outrage piles on outrage, that argument admittedly becomes more difficult to refute.
But last week reminded us that there is nothing normal about Donald Trump or the existential threat he represents. It is long past time for conservatives and Republicans to recognize that.
