Despite the many false alarms Crumple will eventually be proven right. It may not be until the Andromeda galaxy gets here and tears ours apart or our local sun envelops earth in a ball of fire, but he certainly has the requisite persistence.

Does it matter if it is the end of the human race? The earth will still exist something else will take our place. Our time has come and gone. Can anyone produce the contract that mankind has the right to exist for eternity?

Crumple's incessant predictions regarding the end of humanity and/or civilisation used to irritate me. Eventually I regarded them as just a slightly different strain of predictions of religious apocalypses - the outpourings of nutters. They get a bit tedious, but in the end they are of little more consequence than those 19th century asylum inmates who were convinced that they were Napoleon Bonaparte or a reincarnation of him.

Three things in favour of Crumple are that he does not seek making money out of his stream of crying wolf, he does not seek to control crowds with it and he is even less influential than his religious counterparts. So, for the past few years he has just become part of the forum's furniture. I tend to not get emotionally affected by furniture.
