There seems to be what I can only call 'gun blindness' amongst even our more enlightened American friends here. 'Slippery slopes', 'not sure about thats' and all because in the background, hovering like some grinning skull waiting for blood is your unholy 'right to bear arms'.

Well fuck your right to bear arms. Since Sandy Hook more than 400 people have been shot in over 200 school shootings.

Fuck off with your excuses and your pathetic paranoia about your so called freedom. Tell that the the kids..oh you can't - they are dead!

You guys should take it as a message of concern and sympathy that the likes of me, who has never set foot in your country - and many like me - get so worked up about it. But fuck any of you who defend your 'right to bear arms' after so much carnage. There are no more excuses.

If we can’t remove the mentally ill, then we are stuck temoving the guns.
CNN:
A little less than a year ago, on February 28, 2017, Trump signed a measure nixing a regulation aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of some severely mentally ill people. It's critical to note that it's not at all clear it would have applied to the shooters in Florida nor Las Vegas, and there's no reason to believe it would have stopped the massacre.

Definitely. This latest incident is every bit as much of a horror and a tragedy as all the others, and the thought of what those parents, siblings, family and friends are going through is truly appalling, but this doesn't happen anywhere else guys. You've got to start voting for people who take this seriously - of whatever stripe they are - and this 'right to bear arms' business needs dragging into the 21st century.

Driving to school today I heard on the radio that "As American as apple pie" should be replaced with "As American as mass shootings".

I agree.

But I don't understand why you guys think it's our government. We support the right to bear arms.

Let’s see, we could put cops and metal detectors in schools. Or we could slash school safety, if we are Trump:

School safety, school lunch...all state issues. Nothing to do with Trump.

lol, you're going to try to make this about Trump? There is nearly 70% support for hairy arms. You can't touch this issue and you know it.

Trump is an NRA president, so yes, he is to blame.

There are gun control measures that most Americans support that Republicans in congress refuse to get on board with. Universal background checks, for example, has something like 94% support. The banning of "assault style weapons", bump stocks, and high capacity magazines also have majority support. So while it is true that a lot of Americans have a fondness for guns, some of the blame lies with our lobbying system and unresponsive government.

laklak wrote:How about we talk about who is actually doing the mass shootings? It's young, white, teenaged males. It's not women, black males, old dudes, kindergarten kids - it's fucked up teenagers. Where are they getting the fucking guns? This last one bought his legally, because we think 18 year olds have the maturity to do that. Fuck that shit. You should be at LEAST 25 to own any sort of gun, because prior to that your brain hasn't developed. Others get them from home because their parents are irresponsible assholes. Stop molly-coddling the little fuckers and treating them like adults. If you're underage and get caught with a gun outside an adult's supervision you go to jail till you're old enough to act like a fucking human. If you're an adult who lets a kid get hold of your weapon YOU go to jail for being fucking moron. If they start posting aggressive shit on social media and acting all squirrely put them in the nut house where they belong.

Honestly, the vast majority of bad criminal shit is done by young males so concentrate on them. I don't give a fuck if it's sexist, it's the fucking truth. Quit telling me I can't own a weapon because some fucking idiot child can't be trusted, try keeping a lid on the little shits.

Stop selling guns to anyone with the money to buy one. Put some teeth into the background check laws. Confiscate weapons from anyone convicted of any sort of violent or even property crime. If you've been vandalizing your neighbors car then you can never own a weapon. Hell, you get your driving license suspended then you can't be trusted with a weapon.

Stop fucking around and get serious about it or you're going to see this happening over and over again.

Stop lying, ffs. No 2nd Amendment absolutists have been driven off the board by "trolling". Seth was suspended repeatedly for over a year, at least, for being an arse.

If this had been the 8th terror attack of the year rather than just the 8th US school shooting the outrage of politicians would be palpable and impossible to miss. So why are they not only not outraged by yet another avoidable loss of innocent life but they're actively telling everyone else that there's absolutely no need to be outraged by this either?
Because ideology (freedum) triumphs pragmatics in the US. Those dead kids (and all the rest of the dead) are a price the ideologues are willing to pay for the receipt of freedom.

High school columnist:
We can't ignore the issues of gun control that this tragedy raises. And so, I'm asking -- no, demanding -- we take action now.
Why? Because at the end of the day, the students at my school felt one shared experience -- our politicians abandoned us by failing to keep guns out of schools.
But this time, my classmates and I are going to hold them to account. This time we are going to pressure them to take action. This time we are going to force them to spend more energy protecting human lives than unborn fetuses.
