The NRA doesn't represent individual freedom, it represents corporate profit.

Does Emma Gonzales hate individual freedom or just being strafed with automatic weapons in her classroom?
Apparently people (mostly democrats he would have it) are being 'opportunistic' by making the issue political so soon after the shootings. This guy takes some beating.

Now there's an idea...

Trump wants to arm teachers, but even the school's designated trained armed responder decided not to enter the building. Possession of a gun and training in its use does not turn you into a hero, or a killer.

Armed guard at Florida high school failed to enter building and stop shooter.

Teachers with guns. What could possibly go wrong?

Clearly, there needs to be a SEAL team at every school.

That is about the size of it. Ordinary police just stand and watch apparently.

How about the following idea which could make us millions!

In every corridor of every school, we install huge electric magnets in the ceiling. When an amok alert is activated, all the magnets are turned on. Any weapon would be sucked to the ceiling remaining there, not being able to harm anyone.

Only downside: teachers with heart pacemaker will die :(

I really am saddened by the talk of arming teachers. Come on, now....

It's bad enough we've gotten to the point where schools are becoming like prisons.

Back in the late 70s, early 80s, the campus was open, you could walk up to the local public school anytime. We had pick-up football and soccer games on the school grounds and it was no big deal. Kids with driver licenses would drive themselves to school, and you could come and go as you please. Until about 1983 there was a smoking lounge for students (the smoking age was 16 back then). You just walked in the front door, and went where you pleased. There was no gate, no fence, no glass security doors/windows.

It's sad. I'm not sure if things were safer back then, though. Crime rates were higher overall. I suppose there were not the school shootings and stuff back then. That's probably the difference.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but....get off my lawn!

The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

I wouldn't want to be a high school kid these days, and I'm gladder than shit that my kids are grown. Not just the school shooting stuff, but the constant social media pressure. FFS nobody ate laundry detergent when I were lad, though there was usually some kid who ate boogers.

I think it must be pretty awful being in one's teens too these days. Besides all the doom laden news and the fostering of 'future anxiety' (not to be underestimated), the pressures, as you say, of social media are I think also under-estimated by those of us who remember the days before it came along. The level of pressure to conform and the degree of scrutiny these days would have paralysed me as a kid. I would have dumped my phone or tried to anyway by now.

One thing though - there isn't a kid - not one - in the UK, who worries they might be the victim of a mass shooting on their way into school in the morning.
