'Liver branding' surgeon Simon Bramhall fined £10,000
A liver surgeon who branded his initials on the livers of two patients has been fined £10,000.
Simon Bramhall, 53, used an argon beam machine to write his initials on the organs of the anaesthetised patients in 2013 while working at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Bramhall, of Tarrington, Herefordshire, admitted two counts of assault by beating at Birmingham Crown Court.
He was also sentenced to a 12-month community order.
Bacon with that Doctor Lecter?
Re: Bacon with that Doctor Lecter?
At least it was only his initials. What if he had put his banking pin there? Would have been putting the patients at a high risk.

I just remembered I have some pork liver in the freezer. Hard to find pork liver around here so when I see it I buy a bunch to freeze. That's dinner sorted.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Surgeons have done a lot worse. But it does make you wonder what the fuck he was thinking.
You would have to know the details. Did he need to use the machine anyway, and just did in in the shape of his initials? Or did he do it where he wouldn't need to use the machine? And anyway, how big were the letters?
Seems a shame that someone who's highly skilled, and has no previous, should be barred from working. If he has a bad record, I'm sure the press would have unearthed it.
In this case, getting found out might be enough to ensure he doesn't do anything like it ever again.
Would I risk him operating on me? Probably. After this, he might be a very safe bet.

While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
