Well I'm outraged! Outraged like a motherfucker! I'm literally dripping fucking outrage!

What am I supposed to be outraged about again? I just jump on any old outrage wagon that happens by, seems to be what all the cool kids are doing, and I'm a cool kid. Chill MacCool, that's me.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Do you think he would have done that to a sleeping man?

It's belittling to women.
If he was gay he might have.
In some circles, women's and men's chests are to be treated equally, and since nobody would care if anyone did that to a man, then perhaps nobody should care if someone did that to a woman? I mean, if a woman touches my chest, it's no big deal, right? Or, is it? I'll have to wait for the next progressive sjw memo to come out.

I think, though, that in that image he's plainly joking around. It looks like he's hovering his hands close, and he's looking at the camera engaging in a silly photo op. If that was the extent of it, then it is a big fat nothing. And, for her to complain about it is ridiculous. She's entitled to complain about it, of course, and be as ridiculous as she wants, but if this is sexual harassment, then the word doesn't mean too much.

The problem for the pro-Franken camp, is that they tend to hold the view that women get to define what is and is not over the line for them. Once that's the test, then some of what you get is going to be nonsense like this. A grown woman sitting in a flight suit is part of a gag photo, and it's a major Congressional incident? Total horseshit. And in the media and among politicians, the reactions are predictable based on their political interests.

It's not really sexual harassment by any definition I could think of, but it's certainly sexist behaviour. Something you expect from drunk frat boys, not future politicians (or was he already a politician in that photo?).

From the progressive viewpoint, the woman's offense is her own to determine and is to be validated. He sexually assaulted her. He's a sexual predator, expressing his patriarchal entitlement to women's bodies whenever he sees fit. Of course, he's a Democrat, so he'll be the beneficiary of a fair bit of hand-wringing over whether he's really the best "target" for these kinds of allegations, because he supports the right policies.

In reality, this is no worse or better than when Margaret Thatcher "sexually assaulted" Christopher Hitchens by assaulting his buttocks and calling him a "naughty boy" with a leering expression on her face.

Yes, well, he's part of the patriarchy, and you're supposed to believe the victim. Stop blaming the victim, listen, and believe, you patriarchal oppressor, you.

Of course she was part of the gag - this is all a dog and pony show. But, who cares even if she wasn't part of the gag. It was a gag. Nobody would care if a woman pretended to be about to touch Al Franken, chest, butt, balls, wouldn't matter. It would be funny.

I think we're going through a period of cultural zeitgeist where there is a tug of war between equality and the notion that there are ways you must treat a lady which differ from how to treat a man. The difficult social transition is that the thing starts as a request to be treated no different than the guys, but then when women see how guys treat each other, it is sexist to treat women that way.

I don't ever say "what about the menz." What I just illustrated was that equal treatment would result in nobody giving a flying fuck that Al Franken pretended to hover his hands over this woman's chest. She wasn't hurt by it. It was a gag. And, if the idea is that women are to be treated no differently than a guy, then it wouldn't matter.

Note, also, that you just got done saying "he wouldn't do that to a guy," and it's creepy to women to do that. So, you too are comparing treatment of males to the treatment of females. Your problem isn't the analogy. Your problem is that you don't want to recognize the import of the analogy. You want to pretend that Al Franken wouldn't do an "inappropriate" gag on a guy -- which is horseshit, because he and guys in general do far worse to other guys than they do to women. http://www.newsweek.com/franken-jokes-s ... men-713678 - Here, Al Franken jokes about Rob Reiner being raped by men supplied by his father Carl. Fairly harsh, that one. But, then he mentions Leslie Stahl and jokes about drugging her and raping her, so that's harsh too, although, not a train of rapes, still a rape joke. And, then he jokes about "three way sex with robots" which I don't know why that's included, because there's nothing all that "wrong" with robot sex, and then he talks about sex with a woman scientist and in the "joke" (doesn't sound too funny - it's more pornographic) the scientist is the one who makes the moves on him.

All this is "inappropriate" depending on the context. For comedy skits, not necessarily over any line. For private or semi-private conversations where people tend to make more "casual" commentary that would be inappropriate if broadcast, a lot of this kind of thing can be said. Locker room talk, that kind of thing.

Sure, maybe a lot of women don't want to hear it. But, they don't control the English language, and they don't control comedy or the private conversations of people. Not everything has to be "appropriate" for all audiences at all times. That's the theory behind rating systems for movies. We can have violent movies depicting murder, rape, assault, foul language, sex, sex with robots, groping, you name it - and that's "appropriate" for different audiences, and not appropriate for other audiences.

In the case of a joke where Franken is going to pretend he's grabbing a woman's boobs, a USO tour doesn't seem at all inappropriate. Saturday morning TV, maybe not. But, this day and age, I just need to turn on the Cable TV and there are dozens of channels available that have very violent and sexual shows and movies on 24 x 7.
I think, though, that in that image he's plainly joking around. It looks like he's hovering his hands close, and he's looking at the camera engaging in a silly photo op. If that was the extent of it, then it is a big fat nothing. And, for her to complain about it is ridiculous. It's not really sexual harassment by any definition I could think of, but it's certainly sexist behaviour. Something you expect from drunk frat boys, not future politicians (or was he already a politician in that photo?).
It's only sexist if either (A) Al Franken is of a mind that he would not engage in similar conduct with a male, or (B) we presume that certain behavior when done to a woman as opposed to a man is sexist per se.

In that photo he was on a USO comedy tour, and he wasn't a politician. It's not sexual harassment at all, nor is it even sexist on its face. What if we find a picture of him doing the exact same thing with a man? Does it become non sexist?

If it's sexist, then any jokes about a woman's anatomy is sexist. Just joking about tits would be sexist, because men don't have tits. And, if the retort to that is, yes, men do have tits, just smaller ones, then again, it's not sexist UNLESS Al Franken's intent is to treat women differently than men.

Now, if I have a habit of playing practical jokes on men, but not women, would that be sexist? What if I play the same practical joke on women and men - when I get the chance I pretend to grope their chests - is that sexist?

Anyway -- Al Franken's economic positions and are not my cup of tea. I think he would oppose the tax cut plan, so I oppose him on that too. I'm no fan of his. But, he's getting caught up in the witch hunt portion of the sexual harassment wave going on now. Now we're going to get both sides digging up whatever they can. Oh, nos! 20 years ago she was drunk and made a sexual overture toward me at a party, putting her hand close to my wedding tackle! Someone end her career!

Interesting that both of his accusers are Trump cultists. Tweeden was a frequent guest on Hannity's show. Hannity is a right-wing conspiracy nut.

Lindsay Menz tweeted her accusation to someone named Liz Wheeler.

This Liz Wheeler person is apparently is a serious right-wing wacko:

If only liberals cared about Planned Parenthood selling arms, legs, brains, livers, & skulls of aborted human babies as much as they care about Don, Jr. holding an elephant tail.
https://twitter.com/Liz_Wheeler/status/ ... 8909954048
Just a reminder that Democrats still have not done anything to stop funding Planned Parenthood, where 323,000 unborn babies are killed every year.
She also retweeted a tweet that called Trump-Russia the "hoax of the century".
Insider's Tip: Trump-Russia collusion story is "hoax of the century". Thanks @Liz_Wheeler @aprillafever @OANN for discussing backstory with me. Far more like "Burn After Reading" than "All the President's Men." See clip:

This Liz Wheeler appears to be affiliated with a pro-Trump cable news channel called One America News.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_America_News_Network
from Wikipedia:
Trump presidency
According to a number of former and current employees at the channel, as well as internal e-mails, the executives of the channel have "directed his channel to push Trump’s candidacy, scuttle stories about police shootings, encourage antiabortion stories, minimize coverage of Russian aggression, and steer away from the new president’s troubles."[19] During the 2016 presidential campaign, the channel ran a special titled "Betrayal at Benghazi: The Cost of Hillary Clinton’s Dereliction and Greed."[19] Herring, the owner of the channel, sent producers at the channel a report falsely claiming that Hillary Clinton had a brain tumor, and asked them to check up on it.[19] He also shared a report with producers that claimed that Planned Parenthood had promoted abortion, and ordered them to minimize coverage of Pope Francis's US visit due to the Pope's calls for action on climate change.[19] Herring repeatedly ordered his producers not to cover stories pertaining to Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.[19]

In October 2017, the channel said without any evidence that a "report" had been published which showed "U.K. Crime Rises 13% Annually Amid Spread of Radical Islamic Terror".[20] President Trump later repeated this falsehood, suggesting that he learned of from the OAN.[21][22]

In August 2017, One America News Network currently reached 35 million homes and had nationwide distribution from DirecTV, Verizon FiOS TV, AT&T U-verse, Frontier Communications, CenturyLink PRISM TV, and numerous regional video distributors.[19]

Smearing of sexual misconduct accusers
In November 2017, in the wake of a Washington Post report on accusations that Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore had molested or made inappropriate sexual contact with a number of women under the age of 18 (including a 14-year old), One America News promoted a false rumor by an anonymous Twitter account that the Washington Post had offered $1,000 to Roy Moore's accusers.[23][24] One America News described the tweet as a "report" and described the tweeter as a "former Secret Service agent and Navy veteran".[24] The Twitter account had a history of tweeting falsehoods and conspiracy theories; the Twitter account has also made repeated and inconsistent lies about its identity, including appropriating the identity of a Navy serviceman who died in 2007.[24]

After it was revealed that the story was a hoax, One America News did not retract its report.[23]
