They keep publishing these articles about EMP specifically in relation to the DPRK. However, this is not particular to the DPRK. Any nuclear power has this same ability.

I would think that at this point the US would have an EMP weapon, and if we use it on North Korea's nuclear sites, it would shut them down, because they need the electronics to launch their missile. So, I hope we have them at the ready, and if we get intel that the DPRK is launching a nuke, we should EMP North Korea and shut down their ability to launch.

You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

It is possible to harden electronics against EMP, and I'm fairly sure that this is routinely done in the case of military equipment; presumably NK has done just that, so your proposal may not be effective.

The real point of an EMP strike is to cripple the civilian infrastructure of a nation.

Pentagon: only ground invasion can destroy North Korean nuclear program

After a top Pentagon official said the only way to destroy North Korea’s nuclear weapons program would be through a ground invasion, a senior Senate Democrat urged the secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, to “stay the course” and achieve a diplomatic solution to the crisis, in spite of Donald Trump’s unpredictable behaviour and threats of military action.

May be Donald and Kim should really meet in person first.

no way... kim ain't leaving his fortress, and donny is not going there until it's been thoroughly invaded, which is not gonna happen as the US does not have enough troops for the job to begin with (remember, China is behind kim and not gonna let people interfere with its puppet, and the US army could barely fight NK to a standstill last time, and there are fewer troops now)

But Japan has enough rockets. Even without ground troops there are enough armaments close by.

Kim and wife eagerly waiting for Trump to land in N Korea to talk about America disarming SE Asia and Japan

We have been hiding them on submarines
Since the last US nuclear weapons were withdrawn from South Korea in 1991, the United States has protected South Korea and Japan under a “nuclear umbrella” using nuclear bombers and submarines based elsewhere. While defense hawks in Seoul and Washington have, in 2017, called for the United States to redeploy tactical nuclear weapons to South Korea, the authors argue against this idea. Doing so, they say, would provide no resolution of the crisis over North Korea’s nuclear weapons and would likely increase nuclear risks.

Oh....my..... god.... really?????

The US has nuclear weapons on bombers and subs? Who'dathunkit?

Image

So, if it happens, where to meat?

It won't be Pyongyang, as you won't get an American President landing there and have to rely on North Korean security. Same goes for Washington DC. Plus, neither side will want to allow the other the image of superiority by "hosting" the talks. There is submissiveness of being summoned to the other's house....

It shouldn't be Panmunjom (sp?) either. That will smack too much of confrontation. That border location is a building with a national border not only through the building but through the center of the conference table. Parties star across it, as if a firefight might break out and hand to hand combat ensue right there. It's too militarized. Too tense.

It won't be South Korea for the same reason it won't be North Korea. It's the other guy's house, from the DPRK perspective.

Of the choices in the chart, we have left, international waters, and Beijing.

International waters still means someone's boat has to be chosen. The US President will want it to be one of our biggest aircraft carriers. And the DPRK won't land there for the same reason as they won't land at Reagan International. And, the US President is not landing on a North Korean ship either.

Beijing is really the only viable option out of the choices there. Both leaders have been there. It's China. It's "neutral" as between the two parties.

But, I have another option. Switzerland. Have the meetup in Switzerland. Kim went to school there. It's neutral. And it's a new location. Nobody has any arguable advantage.

Neutral waters, on the U.S.S. Gerald Ford.

I doubt Kim will want the DPRK public seeing him landing in a tiny plane or 'copter onto a US carrier, with a row of fighters displayed, and an array of American military personnel greeting him, as he walks up to an American commander with "GWBush codpiece" thrown in for good measure.....

They can just shake hands at the DMZ. Kim Jong Un welcomes Trump to disarm South Korea.
