Fascism is innately evil

Post by Rum » Mon Oct 02, 2017 5:06 pm

We have a self declared fascist amongst us. Personally I think is is an evil doctrine that has done little but cause harm, political strife and death to millions during the last century in particular. Given the rise of nationalism in the modern world is seems there is at least some risk of it doing so again. Here are a few thoughts on the nature of its true nastiness.

“When Fascism came into power, most people were unprepared, both theoretically and practically. They were unable to believe that man could exhibit such propensities for evil, such lust for power, such disregard for the rights of the weak, or such yearning for submission. Only a few had been aware of the rumbling of the volcano preceding the outbreak.”
– Erich Fromm, Escape from Freedom

“If we define an American fascist as one who in case of conflict puts money and power ahead of human beings, then there are undoubtedly several million fascists in the United States.”
― Henry A. Wallace

“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerated the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism: ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.”
― Franklin D. Roosevelt

“The strategic adversary is fascism... the fascism in us all, in our heads and in our everyday behavior, the fascism that causes us to love power, to desire the very thing that dominates and exploits us.”
― Michel Foucault

“Fascism is capitalism plus murder.”
― Upton Sinclair

“A fascist is one whose lust for money or power is combined with such an intensity of intolerance toward those of other races, parties, classes, religions, cultures, regions or nations as to make him ruthless in his use of deceit or violence to attain his ends.”
― Henry A. Wallace

I think that the pseudo-scientific racialist aspect of Nazi Germany in large part lead to a bad taste in people's mouths regarding fascism. Overall the notion of private ownership and market forces coupled with centrally promoted culture and control of security related industries is a very efficient model. Of course ask most people what fascism is, and they know no definition outside of pejorative.

the mass murder of people who did not fit into the Nazi ideal and the totalitarian lifestyle promoted by fascism are what bother me more than the racist aspects, even if 'scientific racism' is pseudo science at its finest worthy of the esoteric dreck of a Guido von >List and the Thule society...

Strictly speaking Nazziism was not fascit (though for all practical purposes it might as well be). The racist element tends to be lacking in fascist regimes - the core of which was the power of the state rather than the race. There was not a huge amount of anti-semitism in Italy until they teamed up with Germany. There were not all that many Jews in Italy at the time come to that.

Italy did not put the accent on the racial note because ther was no racial question.... Jews were few, non christians virtually non existent, and all populations, Italic or not rallied to the National Tale of being descendents from the Romans and the Glorious Italians of the Renaissance... ergo the thing was to make them into a well oiled state serving machine...

In Germany, the situation was radically different.

I don't think you get to death camps without the racism. So what you see and independent variables, I see as cause and effect.

No, I was saying that Nazi Germany went death camps because of the racism. Initially the euthanasia was for terminally ill and sterilization was used for the mentally handicapped. It expanded into larger groups based on pseudo scientific racism and quickly changed into extermination.

When a 'centrally promoted culture' is the goal and centralized 'control of security related industries' is the means, death camps are 'a very efficient model' by which to proceed.

Concentration Lagers were the first reaction of the regime to communists and gays, and from putting them in camps to exterminating them in camps, that was a step quickly taken even before they started invading Europe and concentrating Jews and Zigeuner...

O yes. Autobahn. Volkswagen. Trains on time. Alles wunderbar.

Cretins are renowned for failing to recognise virtues such as the one-party state, belligerent nationalism, enabling laws, gleichschaltung, cultural enhancement through book burnings, freedom of speech via censorship... And just look at those uniforms! Simply smashing.

I wish fascism made a comeback soon.

Oh wait...
