Not sure about that. Lots of people at home with the lights and computers on... It depends on how many electricity-intensive industries are still operating...

Less being used in offices and no heating either. The only thing requiring maintenance are the servers.

Good point about shut down city offices. Both my sons and one of their partners are working from home, with their offices in mothballs. One had a fairly long, annoying commute by car - he now spends less money on petrol, has time to exercise and do stuff around the house while still putting a full day's work online...

The future? Many couples here share the same job from home (15 hours a week usually). Using Skype or Zoom for meetings. There is no need to travel.

I've always thought that international conferences and business travel could be replaced by modern, hi-tech communication solutions - this crisis might be the trigger to push that hard...

In my old office we had a conference room but the old guys (I was young then) could not get used to it. It is at first an odd experience especially when there 6 or 7 of you. I never liked Skype. The audio side was uncomfortable.
