Mosul is free from IS

Post by DRSB » Tue Jul 11, 2017 8:00 pm

Distracted by orange hair and daughters and wives, we might be missing something that is really worth celebrating!
The Iraqi army kicked out IS from Mosul. This is a biggie!

Wonderful. Now the Kurds, Peshmerga and the dozens of local tribes can resume butchering each other, leaving the gates wide open for the most fundamentalist elements of the Taliban to return.

I presume this was an attempt at humour.

The phrase "free" is a bit debatable.

IS got going in Mosul because they had support there. Not from everyone, but from enough to get established.
Now they probably support the Iraqi army. Or whoever else is currently carrying the guns.

But the fact remains, IS got control in some places and not others. The difference? Local support. Or lack of local resistance. Or a bit of both.

I suspect your analysis of being a tad simplistic.

Well, yeah, I was in a particularly black mood earlier today. Driving IS out of Mosul is big news and good. I still stand by my previous post, though.

Only cleared out IS so far. Now they've got to concentrate on hiding the large number of civilian bodies before the international press stumble on the true cost of such a swift victory.

Look, this was a huge operation, it took months, there are still difficulties to face but let's give credit to the Iraqi army for driving these unsavoury types away!

Fair point.

But the city looks like one huge ruin - I hope Iraqi oil revenues are up to helping the citizens of Mosul to rebuild...

What do you expect from a bunch of grumpy old men who spend their spare time sniping at each other and turning every positive thing into a moaning session!? :nono:

Duuuuuh.

What did you expect on a forum post? A full public enquiry?
But my post was accurate. IS got going only where they had support. And that was in Sunni Areas where the people felt aggrieved because they hate the Shi-ites who are in the majority.
And what do arabs do when they are in government? Look after their buddies and crush their enemies.
On top of that, the Sunnies think the Shi-ites are heretics, and vice-versa.
So IS, a Sunni gang paid for by the Saudis, got going where the Sunnis live, and squashed where the Shi-ites lived.
wikipedia wrote: Through the 1970s, Saddam cemented his authority over the apparatus of government as oil money helped Iraq's economy to grow at a rapid pace. Positions of power in the country were mostly filled with Sunni Arabs, a minority that made up only a fifth of the population.[citation needed]
The Sunnis got used to an easy life at the expense of the Shi-ites. They supported IS to try to get it back. Fuck em. They got what they deserved. Fuck the lot of them. Just leave them where they belong.
Don't send the fuckers here. They don't change their spots.
