Washington (CNN) — Rep. Steve Scalise was shot Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia, a House colleague told CNN, in what sources are calling an apparent "deliberate attack."

Update on the condition of majority whip Steve Scalise from his congressional office:

“This morning, at a practice for the congressional baseball game, Whip Scalise was shot in the hip. He was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he is currently undergoing surgery. He is in stable condition.

“Prior to entering surgery, the Whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone. He is grateful for the brave actions of US Capitol Police, first responders and colleagues.

“We ask that you keep the Whip and others harmed in this incident in your thoughts and prayers.”

Not sure how you concluded that. Shooting people up makes you a violent extremist. Politics was apparently this joker's motivation. That doesn't mean that every anti-Trumper is a violent extremist.

There are plenty, however, who have been engaging in so much violent rhetoric, that if the shoe were on the other foot, and it ere anti-Hillary folks who were talking about punching and beating up the opposition, and right wingers rioting on college campuses, etc., you can bet dollars to donuts that a violent act like this would be blamed on the "violent rhetoric" and the "climate" created thereby.
