Four years for killing boyfriend
A BARMAID who stabbed her boyfriend to death in a "highly emotional" row over a chickenburger was jailed for four years on Friday. Julie Yates plunged a six-inch knife into Ian Bourne's chest after she discovered mayonnaise on her post-pub snack. The mother-of-three sobbed in the witness box as she told a jury how the petty argument spiralled out of control. She and HGV driver Mr Bourne, 25, had enjoyed a drink in the Angel pub in Wainfleet, before returning to Reynard Street, Spilsby, where the argument began on January 5. Yates denied murder and claimed she was acting in self-defence. She was cleared of the charge at Nottingham Crown Court but found guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter after more than six and a half hours' deliberation by the jury.
